Got the Ford newsletter at work today - apart from the usual crap, the product update states:

- The Prestige Sound System option will be available on all BA Falcon XR vehicles commencing in August 2003.

So anyone with an order out there and you haven't heard, you might want to ring up your dealer and upgrade it!

I thought the prestige was the stereo fitted standard to the Fairmont ghia - more speaker elements, amp and sub.

That description describes the premium sound in the XR's. Consists of 6 stacker in dash, sub, extra speakers, colour screen and an extra amp.

Maybe the prestige option is like that in the Fairmont meaning a 6 stacker in dash, not sure what else it may add though?

looking at the spec sheet, it appears the Prestige is just the standard unit with a 6 stacker - not the extra power or speakers. But I'm guessing.

** Available on XR's & Fairmont, standard on Fairmont Ghia and up.

Basically the Prestige audio has the same size screen as Premium but not colour. Premium is the top of the line because the extra stuff you get on top of the Prestige system is the Colour screen, tweeters, amp & subby. Premium sound is a 11 speaker 260W system.

Just to let you all know, that BAXR6T has nailed it right on the head. Mate that works at the local Ford dealer, has advised that the Premium is worth the money of you can afford it and - The speakers, sub and amp provided is apparently very underrated and very good quality and install is donem, so it is not bodgy. But on the other hand, some people would be very happy with a normal or Prestige setup and just listen to the 'music' the engine cranks when driving.....'Oh how sweet it is....'

But I've got the Premium setup and it is sweet - especially for long drives!

Can you play random tracks of all 6 CD's, or can you only get random tracks of one of the 6 CDs at a time?

Well....I can only get random tracks on one CD. The CD's take a few seconds to change so there would be quite a few pauses between tracks. Not to mention the overhead on the CD stacker.
