OK, went for a drive down to Nowra on the weekend. Wen't down via Kangaroo Valley and Cambawarra Mntn and came back through Berry (Kangaroo Valley Rd). best fun you can have with your pants on I reckon!  Except for the awefully slow Blueprint BA XR6 in front of me on the way down. Anyone from here? Those yellow signs with speed limits on them are only advisory, you can usually take the corners at double that speed quite safely.

The road is in reasonable condition, a lot of patched potholes, 100km/h feels very quick in most areas. There were some roadworks a couple of kms past the one-lane bridge at Kangaroo Valley where they are widening the road. About one km of hard packed dirt which shouldn't worry anybody too much, the roadwork speed limit is 40km/h so there were no stones being thrown up. This will probably be fixed by August anyhow.

Kangaroo Valley Rd, as I mentioned earlier is quite narrow but a lot of fun and not much traffic. I think I saw only about half a dozen cars all travelling in the opposite direction. This was on a Monday so it will propbably be a little busier on a weekend but still quite manageable I think.

Met up with another XR6T owner at Shoalhaven Heads and told him about this site and this cruise and he sounded keen to log-on and meet up.

Thanks for the update mate

I havent been through in a couple of weeks, although it seems they are constantly digging up the road in Kangaroo Valley at the moment. I had just polished the bike last time and had to follow the water truck through. Grrrr

Your right though, its all very hard packed and no worries for us.

I think Kangaroo Valley road is the go, just to get us off the main road (and hopefully away from the sunday drivers!)

Just have to decide if we want to go up Macquarie Pass, or down! (ie clockwise loop or anticlockwise)

Guys,

I recently did a similar circuit with a group of friends. Let me just say that you are all in for one hell of a ride

The only thing I would change is the route from Sutherland to Wollongong. If you can spare an extra 30 minutes, take the route via the Royal National Park... Stanwell Tops... and onto Wollongong via the coast road. There are some great twisty bits and a section of the coast road makes you feel like you're driving on the the Great Ocean Road, only it's not so long.

There is an opportunity to stop off at Bald Hill (Stanwell Tops) car park to catch your breath and take in the views.

XRTank,

I had thought of that, but the main problem is that we dont know if the coast road between Stanwell Park and Coalcliff is even open at that point. At present it is closed for 4 weeks for more repairs, and the RTA close it after most periods of rain. I didnt want to have to try and change the plans at the last minute.

I know we could have done the Nasho and then freeway from Helensburg to the gong, but there will be plenty of corners on this day, and we can save the National Park run for a Saturday arvo in summer. I will be meeting you guys in Wollongong anyway, so I guess it is up to the individuals if they want to leave 1/2 and hour early and run through the park.

We are still on the planning board at this point, so please throw some ideas in. Do the Sydney people want to drive throught the Royal National Park on the way to Wollongong. Expected trip time is around an hour from Sutherland to Wollongong, takes about 30 / 35 min Suth to Woll via Freeway.
