My car started running a bit rough yesterday and the l/hr indicator on the dash has gone from 1.5 l/h to just over 2 l/hr. I can hear what sounds to me like an air leak around the no. 1 injector. Is this a bad thing do I need to get it fixed straight away? The car is only stock with no other mods why would it have busted an o-ring??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Dave

I'd say anything to do with fuel in the engine bay as opposed to IN the engine is bad...

Well after visiting my local mechanic he diagnosed the problem as a perished o-ring on the inlet side of the no. 1 injector. From this I searched around to find a set of injector o-rings (thought I may as well change all of them not just the busted one). I then changed all the o-rings which turned out to be easier then I first thought. Put it all together and then cranked it over. The thing fired up but still makes the same suction noise. The only other thing that I can think it would be is the inlet gasket has got a leak.

Can anyone shed some light on this matter??

Could it just be a case of a loose manifold bolt??

Has anyone had a problem with inlet gaskets on a stock T before??

Cheers

David

I've experienced a faulty inlet gasket on a standard N/A XR6 before, it was as if the material had been worn down in one section, if you have the time, pull it off and check, how old is your car?

get a spare bottle full of water, spray around the intake to head join, t/bdy gasket and anywhere else you think it may be sucking air (dont forget all the vacum lines) the note of the engine will change if it sucks in the water vapour and that will tell you where the leak is.

Yeah run some water around the joins and if there's an air leak you find it.

It may still be an injector though, some times they can be tricky to seat correctly and will have a small gap... give them a little push down while it idles, a leak will show up if it's there.

Thanks for the replies guys when I get home tonight I will spray a bit of water around what sounds like the affected area. Senna_T the mechanic I spoke to said that the N/A XR6 were known for bad inlet gaskets but he had never seen one on a T. The car is a 03 XR6T.

Cheers
