Opened the bonnet and the hose going to the crossover had come off. No problem just put it back on and tightened the clamp...didn't drive hard though...Then this afternoon every time it comes on boost under hard aceleration it backfires about 3000rpm with no mumbo and I back off straight away....Under 2300rpm its no problem, idles perfectly and drives normal. Even accelerating slowly it is fine...it's only under WOT ther power is hugely dulled and then backfires...As I am mechanically very challenged I am asking you guys....My guess is spark plugs????? But I really don't have a clue....hahaThanks in advance......

Fat-Tony Legacy Donating Member 5,364 Member For: 20y 6m 4d Posted 29/10/07 07:23 AM Posted 29/10/07 07:23 AM Yes you will have to replace the standard pump if running the process west surge tank as it feeds the tank, and you are right the dekas have a lot more fuel left in them when making 300rwkw. I would be getting the car back to get the AFR's checked out as when the fuel pump is gone its not uncommon to see them as lean as 16:1, if it is indeed the fuel pump get it changed out ASAP.

Fat-Tony Legacy Donating Member 5,364 Member For: 20y 6m 4d Posted 29/10/07 07:46 AM Posted 29/10/07 07:46 AM I can help with an install but I am in melbourne. What Pete is saying makes sense because it came off at your cross over and your map sensor is before this point, meaning your car will run really rich if driven around like that. I would be checking out the plugs first and it all is well there then trouble shoot the fuel pump.

gilto Member 218 Member For: 19y 2m 26d Gender: Male Posted 30/10/07 03:57 AM Author Posted 30/10/07 03:57 AM 90% fixed...Pete and fatsex you were right! I replaced the spark plugs....when I took them out they were pretty black around the base so they have been running rich....I had NGK's in my garage so I just used them.....Took it for a test drive with TC off....acceleration through first gear was perfect and spun the tyres...into second and high in the rev range it was a little hesitant to go....kept driving.....5 minutes later from a standstill 1st gear again was faultless....second gear accelerated hard with a bit of reluctancy and then did a BIG backfire.......from standstill again and first was fine again.....just is hesitant at high RPM in 2nd ???? Could this be plug gap?????The NGK's were 0.8 and I reduced them to 0.6 however I did it with a hammer and I'm guessing they are not all the same....I've never gapped plugs before.....As I'm getting a tune soon I didn't worry about getting them perfect 'cus I'm going to get new plugs with the next tune....Would the backfiring and reluctancy to accelerate be the plugs still ?????????
