hi need some info . yesterday came back from the coast towing myboat it was a bit hoter than usual

and almost to the top of the mountain and the temp guage went from just over 1/4 to just over 1/2 and the temp light started flashing and also the d D for drive on the dash is this normal if the temp goes up a bit more than where it usualy runs? by the guage it was not overly hot. this has hapend once before just after I put the pwr aloy expantion tank on and was towing the boat but was givig it a bit of stick up the mountain could it be that the new tank is holding the heat to much ??? any help would be great

I would say the car did not overheat, but the transmission did. The flashing D is Limp mode and generally will result in lost power and Limp mode.

Towing puts a lot of heat into the whole drivetrain and would result in more heat. Just take it easy in hot weather.

Probabally pay to keep it in 3rd at a 1:1 ratio as opposed to overdrive in 4th. It will rev a little higher, use a tad more juice but be nicer on your trans. Ask any trans specialist and they will advise you much the same.

They recommend that you always use performance mode for towing for that reason. :spoton:

Its not the trans over heating its the engine oil temp overheating have a look on page 17 in your owners manual.I had the same thing happen when towing a large trailer in the mountains I was in first gear doing 20km when it happened I pulled over let it idle for 10mins and called FORD they Where no help. I put it down to the constant load being on the the engine for a long time about 6 psi for 10 mins the turbo overheated the oil pressure did not drop.I all ready have huge trans cooler fittted and its never happened again. But im never towing a trailer that heavy again!
