Hi all,

I dropped off the XR yesterday morning for a gearbox reco, hopefully get it back within the next week or so. I just wanted a few opinions on stall converters. Yes I do want a quicker car, but how much difference does a stall converter actually make? On a day to day basis will it actually still be a "normal" car? A few people explained it as it feels like the gearbox is slipping but it actually isnt... :tease:

Well... I want to spend another $1000! It's either valve springs or stall converter? Which one has a better bang for buck? I worried about a stall converter because it might really detract from the cars drivability.

Valve springs and a stall are like apples and oranges :spoton:

If you want to chase more power, and do it reliably, get valve springs so that when future upgrades come the car will handle them. If you want to get a quicker time down the strip, go with the stally.

If it were me, I'd save a few more dollars and go with valve springs as well as injectors and/or cat :Imwifhim:

If I was you valve springs will be needed for future mods but seeing as your car is getting the box done now I would consider a converter as well.I had one on my MK1 BA with 300rwkw and it doesnt really feel any different with normal driving.The only time you knew was when you stalled it up and it would stall to 3200rpm.I deal for quick takeoffs with the right rubber but on the street its not really needed.I ran it for quicker quarter mile runs.Its does help take the load off the auto in 4 gear if you hit the gas hard.
