Just wondering is it possible to change the colour of your dash display? Has anyone done it or thought about away it could be done?

Hey mate

I've done this to my BF. Bought an SR after selling the XR6T ute, and missed the blue lights on the dash. There are about 22 green LEDs that need replacing. Most of them are blue, with 6 white ones that go on the circuit board behind the Odo and the other LCD readout (avg spd, L per 100k, etc).

Five screws need to be removed to get the instrument cluster out of the car, then it just pulls apart by hand with clips. For my BF, I bought an FPV instrument cluster from a wrecker for $90.00 (it had a lazy tacho). Desoldered all blue and white LEDs and replaced the green ones on my stock BF SR. I also changed the backing plate thingie to the FPV one.

Took about 3 hours all up, and I did it with a friend with a temp controlled soldering iron, tiny flat head screw driver to pry LEDs off the board, tweezers, solder and patience.

Damn.... That sounds like a job and a half, but think of the end result.

Did you have any problems with the soldering thalamus, did it all work fine? I love some pics of the end result if you could. I might pick up a second hand one before I go pulling mine to bits and see how I go. Thanks for ya help

Didn't have any problems with the soldering. My mate and I used a fine point tip on the iron. I only have a butane soldering iron, but he had a 240v temp controlled one which he said would make life heaps easier - we used that! Once the new LEDs were in, and I put the cluster back in the car it worked straight away, every LED fired up.

I do not know the exact voltage of the LEDs, as I just swapped mine from an existing cluster. Would definitely pay to check that the red ones you buy are a voltage match. I did notice that 4.5v light up a blue or green LED nicely, while 1.5v lit up one of the standard red LEDs in the cluster. I then put 4.5v through a red one and blew it to pieces!
