Good to see the govt finally doing something with the welfare system as well

Don't quite agree about the urine testing, I suggest the following;

The whole point of the dole is a safety net to allow people to get back on their feet / find useful employment,

It should be given 90% food, transport and rent tokens.

if you want discretion on how you spend your F'n income, then F'n earn it!

If you find tokens degrading, then get a F'n job.

If you can hold down a job and get drunk/ stoned / whatever, fine by me,

so long as you're not going to hurt anyone else.

may I sensationalize for just a moment.....

you withold the dole from legitimite drug addicted people, they are still going to try and get their fix, logic tells me that if they have no income from a reliable source, they will turn to whatever is necessary to gain funds to purchase drugs..... increase in crime rates anyone?

the theory works well, if you remove human nature, unfortunately, it isnt as easy as pissing in a cup

that's alright you can use the money not spent on supporting the junkies and spend it on extra police, so they can be caught, locked up and removed from society.

We'd just need to make sure they do it in a part of the country which no one wants to go to (out of sight out of mind).

For the rest of society on the dole I think it we should go one step better, tokens can be swapped easily, they are as good as money. Having the government control your income period is the way dole should be. We need the safety net. It should be there for everyone period (otherwise crime rates will go up, and your tax saving will go directly to your friendly local insurance company) but it should be the government buys the food and pays the bills on your behalf.

I personally think claiming the dole should give you the same restrictions as bankruptcy (only you get off the dole when your first pay cheque comes in, not 7 years later)
