May 2003 BA XR6 T 6sp T56 sedan.

Mods Nizpro injectors & Valve springs

Walbro pump

X Force exhaust

Capa custom tune

Car has been running fine till now, only changes have been a T56 fitted a few weeks ago.

It does have a over boosting prob when driven early hours of the morning.

You can drive it with no miss but once boost climbs over 10 psi some times it starts to miss and pop as if the ecu is cutting fuel or ignition.

This is only happening sometimes.

Yesterday driving home I had noticed the tractsion light flicker.

It useually turns on when you loose tractsion.

Maybe something to do with this.

I have reflashed the com and still the same.

My next conclusion is maybe a sticky fuel regulator or fuel pump problem.

Any idea's before anything bad happens to my motor?

Has anyone had similiar problem?

Iam also in process of building a strong bottom end and Iam hoping till then before it goes for a retune.

Hey I've been having the same problem with my 10pound tune. I had my car serviced by Ford up here in brisbane when I moved up a couple month ago. Now every time I load the 10pound tune it does the same. Bit embarrassing on the highway when u try and overtake and u just can't get it to accelerate.

I have not done anything to the car. I was going to get CV Performance to check it out next time I'm in sydney.

So that makes 2 of us, 01txr.

old box was t5, its nothing with the tune as the t56 has been in for a few weeks now.

Don't think it is plugs as it would do it all the time.

One other thing from similar past experience I had a Cat go in a EF XR6 and the ceremic inside had broken up and was causing it to block at times till it had caused it to go no faster than 60klms.

I checked all sensors, earths, changed ECU, checked plugs, changed coil pack, changed fuel pump. It drove me crazy.

A guy told me it would be the Cat, I thought it can't be as it was not very old, and as I was under the car checking for anything under it I hit it with my palm and what do you know a big rattle, so I losened the engine pipe off and wella it was fine, when it was removed all the pieces fell out.

I will check if this is the case on Friday to see if this is the case (It shouldn't be as it is only about 2mths old).

Let you all know if it is.

So any other idea's so I can check if it turns out not being the Cat.

Hey guys,

I have a similar problem. Got an edit the other day with generic tunes. whenever I run the 10 psi tune at hi rpm it coughs and pops and occasionally puffs of smoke came out. Is this a fuel problem or valvesprings maybe? I have a k &n and typhoon cai no other mods.

Cheers Brad

Well it's not the Cat.

Busy weekend and only had time to remove and check Cat.

It's still doing the same.

What makes it strange is it is only doing it sometimes.

I was thinking maybe fuel surge but it is doing it on a full tank.

My next step will be to check the plugs and coil packs.

Also something I hadn't mentioned was that I had topped up my tank with BP Ultimate as there wasn't a Shell garage on my trip to the V8's last Sunday.

I don't use Ultimate as everytime I had my car would ping on boost in second.

So just wondering if maybe this fuel may have caused a problem.

Eg dirty causing regulator or pump problems, maybe it's due for a new filter.

I may need to check my intake piping as I think there is a air leak noice that is new.

Has anyone had a intake leak that would cause these problems?

Turbo seems to be bolted tight and hasn;t come loose like stories I have heard, and all engine bay plumbing is tight.

Could wastegate problem cause this popping missing problem?

Or BOV sticking.

I have noticed if I only use say 50% trottle there is no problem.

Another thing is I have a Excede clutch that is slipping when it spike's past 15psi and was wondering if the ECU might be thinking wheel spin is happening and limiting the engine.

This has never happened even when the T5 was fitted so Iam thinking why it may have changed now.

If the back brake hose has been damaged from being on hoist would this be a cause.

Just have to get all the Idea's so I can check once I get time.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

HAVE YOU DONE YOUR PLUGS

I'm havin probs with mine same model car but with custom tuning we have worked out it looks like the auto not talkin to the computer properly if I lock it in 1st or 3rd no dramas any where lock it in 2nd or 4th and it surges and cuts power under load but hopefully some more fine tuning will fix this

Most likly this is plug gap which has been mentioned you need to close them up for the 10 psi map and also I would recommend a custom tune as this is the only true way to tune these cars as they are not all the same.

It is a custom tune and I have been running this tune for over 3-4 months, this is how I purchased the car and it has been running very good till now on this 12psi tune.

The spark plugs where replaced just prior to me purchasing the car 3-4 months ago (irdiums).

As I mentioned the only change has been the gearbox and there was no problem till about 2 weeks after.

Iam thinking of a lot of possibilities and will start with checking the condition of the plugs and gaps, and at same time will test the coils.

If that is all good I will check to see if it could be the so called bad hose's supplied with the Walbro fuel pump to see if they have deteriorated.

At the same time check internal filter and see if there is any water in the fuel, which shouldn't be as we havn't had any rain in a long time unless this servo is adding it to it's supply.
