I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for...

So hopefully somebody can help out.

I upgraded from my standard Throt on my BA MK2 Typhoon to a John Bowe Performance Throt.

It is great however the idle is fluctuating around 50rpm, it ranges from 750-800rpm

The mechanic messed with the idle adjuster bolt on top of the throttle body a few times and it seems to be around a 25rpm difference but it still isn't stable like the original was, also when the cruise is on at lets say 60km in 4th you can feel the car surging back and forth.

I am guessing my only option is to keep aimlessly turning the idle adjuster bolt or get the butterfly clearance on idle, pull the throt off the car and measure it so this problem will go away.

If anybody can give me any suggestions, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks..

Dan

I would not touch the bolt as it is not designed to fix the problem.

From memory this type of problem can occur because the TPS is not calibrated or there is a small airleak.

To calibrate the TPS, you start the car with your foot flat to the floor. The car will not start, but apparently it will detect the WOT of the TPS and calibrate it accordingly.

I also think the JB TB is a waste of money for anything but a highly modded car, as the stock TB seems to be goot up to 400rwkw.

Thanks ZAP

I gave it a whirl, it seems to have sorted it out instantly, I will be driving a couple of hundred k's today so I will see how it is when I get back.

As for the whole waste of money comment, I agree with you, but believe me, I paid the right price for this thing so it turned out to be a very cheap mod.

Thanks once again.

Dan, had the same problem with my JB unit and could not get a decent idle in over 18 months of trying everything known to mankind. Put the original unit back on and its as sweet as pie.

Oh, that does not sound good!

Zap's suggestions seems to have worked, it messes around a little bit still, but I think it is almost sorted!

Hey all,

To anyone who has tried this; is the engine supposed to turn over when calibrating the TPS?

mine was, but stopped off after a couple of seconds because I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be turning over or not,

Cheers

Dan
