Hi ppl,

I had to have my car jump started by RAC last nite as it just wouldn't start at a shopping centre car park. So I got my car back home and left it as is planning to get a replacement battery on Monday first thing. However this morning when I went into my garage I could hear a whiny noise from under my car's bonnet. When I popped the hood I could hear that it was definitely coming from the engine fuse box. Also there was a sulfurus smell like rotten eggs and whiffs of white smoke coming from the battery. So I disconnected the negative terminal and the noise and smoke stopped. Is this normal for when a battery dies or do I have some electrical probs causing this??

It is NOT NORMAL ind is a sever fire hazard.

I would go to an auto electrician and get it looked at. I would also get it towed as it could catch fire.

It is best not to mess with anything like this.

it sounds like a problem with the car rather than the battery. If the battery was internally shorting itself out then it wouldnt matter if you disconected the terminals or not.

Having said that the smell you described is coming from the battery.

Id say your up for a new battery but before you install it, find out what was making the noise in the fuse box because its obviously related to the problem your having :roflmbo:

I have a similar noise coming from the fuse box or thereabouts. Kinda sounds like a ticking noise coming from an electric motor. I know of another person who has this also so any help appreciated.

I have the exact same noise.

The battery has most likely dropped a cell. When a battery is on its way out, or has dropped a cell, the electronics in the car start to play up, especially relays, central locking and the like. I wouldnt be all that worried, just put in a new battery and it should be fine.

Failing that, have a leccy look into it.

There used to be a clicking noise from the fuse panel with the first gen Capa Tunes but this was only heard when the car was on.

As far as im aware that issue had been resolved
