hi guys,

I was just wounding if my T has a aftermarket actuator or not.

When I nailed it spikes to about 15psi then settles back down to around 12psi in low gears, then in 4 or 5 it starts rissing with revs going to 15psi + so I then have to back off.

Im gussing the rising of boost in higher gears is due to the standard wastgate not bypassing engough, but in second and third it after spiking to 15, return to 12psi, does this mean I could have a 12psi actuator?

Its got a flash turner, front mount, 968 injectors and a full 3in manderal bent exaust, but what I dont get is how can CAPER sell you a flash turner with a 10psi out of box tune, if your still got a standard actuartor which is what, 8psi?

Im confused :roflmbo:

I in the near future plan to run around the 330 to 350RWKW.

I will have what I already have plus, ss intake and second scoop, cross over pipes, valve springs and a fuel pump.

What sort of psi wil I need? will a 15 psi acturator be engough? What is the max psi people have run on unopen motors?

Any help would be really appreciated.

is it custom tuned?? standard valve springs?? My guess is, that it's got standard actuator, and the boost is spiking to 15psi then lowering to 11-12psi in the higher rev range to protect motor and or valve springs.

My car is custom tuned with injectors, cooler, exhaust and mine is tuned exactly that way. Builds to around 15psi (occasionally hits 16-17psi on cold nights) and then bleeds down to around 11psi in the higher rev range.

You won't need a 15psi actuator.. more like 7 or 8.. that's if you end up needing one at all.

Get it checked on the dyno and see how it's running before doing anything mate.

Standard actuator is more like 3.5 psi.

The CAPA flash unit is able to access the duty cycle of the wastegate solanoid. It can therefore bleed air from the actuator so that it opens later giving you more than the prescribed spring rate.

The spring rate in PSI will be the minimum PSI you can run rather than the maximum. So if you have a 5 PSI spring, that's the lowest boost you can run. If that makes sense!

cheers guys, :spoton:

I have alot better understanding now and Ill try to get it tuned this sat, and see what happens then go from there, until then Ill take it easy.

I flashed it back to factory the other night just to compare and it hit boost cut straight away, so I guess its tuned, atleast with the mods already done I hope it is.

thanks again fellas and Ill let you know what happens.

you flahsed it back to standard?? with all those mods? :fool: farken hell dude.. don't touch your car.. don't touch the keys.. talk to a tuner or mechanic. Surely you should know that bigger injectors plus all the other mods on the standard tune is bad news.

if you're gonna touch the car, ask for someones advice first :spoton: or at least keep the current tune in there, so that it's actually running how it's supposed too.. fark knows what damage you've done with all those mods and a standard tune :sleepystuff:

its alright mate, it just started to come on boost at a tad under 2 grand and it ran like crap and tried to cut out, I didnt even give it more then quarter throttle, I didnt even think of trying it again, just flashed it back to it 3rd tune and its all sweet again.

I shouldnt of hurt anything at that revs, boost or load, probly just flooded it.

but I can see what your going on about if I was stupid and didnt know what was happening and tried holding it to the boards and see what would happen.

thanks for your concern anyway mate.

The actuator will hold till exactly what it is set for (around 3.5 psi)..

The boost solenoid will hold the actuator closed until it is damn well told to open.. Above 20 psi will make it wonder if its job is even worth it...

Even with no computer boost control, you will still get the 3.5 you paid for... With computer aided boost control the vacuum from the engine will hold that sucker shut till at least you can blow a stock motor to pieces...

You need a custom tune and if you can tell us more about the car we may know where it came from and the issues the previous owner had...

I went from SEQ to NQ and found I needed a retune just because of the different fuel and climate,.. Luckily I have a nomad for a tuner... Running well now.. If the car came from anywhere south of humpty doo.. It will need a good look at, believe me...... You have an excellent resource here, DONATE and abuse it!!!!!!

gday blonk,

The car came form adelaide and now lives in Darwin. So it was always on the to do list before I bought it, like I said its going on the rollas this sat, and even if I lived were I bought it I would still get checked it out.

Im still happy driving like a gramma :crybaby: to work and back until then.

Ok so with the actuators why do people change them if the computer can control the amonut of boost through the soliond? Is it just to stop boost spiking?

Nobody changes them below 600hp......

Unless you have a really bad setup............

I am taking a wild punt but the adeliade boys are very staunch and may know the car....

Might save you heaps of problem solving if you know the level it was at before it got (for want of better expression) de-mobilised............
