Hey everyone,

I have a 2003 T with Preium sound. I recently got installed profesisonally an Alpine V12 MRV-345 Amplifier, Alpine splits and a JL 12" W3 Dual Coil Sub in the boot with custom box. Now the problem I'm having is after even a few minutes of heavy-bass music, the amp cuts out and flashes "CUR" which according to the manual means "the amp has been shutdown due to excessive current". I also got a Cap installed as suggested by the installer as it "should" fix the problem, but alas it keeps happening.

The installer advises that the problem is the output the head deck (the whole .5v thingo) isn't giving the amp enough signal. The guy was saying that the input into the amp is using the low line input or low level input, can't remember the proper name, and that the head deck just isnt giving it enough.

I was told my options were, new head deck mounted in the tisuse box, use a line level amp but it can decrease quality drasticly or use the alpine hub pro. I didnt really want to add a second head deck as I like the factory look.

Any help is much appreciated.

Josh

I have successfully converter ed the 0.5V pre outs from the ICC to 6V pre outs. the only catch is they are still in development because of a whine issue that im having trouble getting rid of on one of the test cars.

Any decent installer should be able to put line-level converters in for you, tapped of the speaker wires. It's not the most ideal resolution but it works and has done so for anyone else using aftermarket gear off the factory head unit :spoton:

cheers fella, keep me posted shock. just confirming though, a low signal strength from the head deck would make the amp cut out reporting over voltage? or more likely is it the installer has the amp gain set too high to allow for the low signal volts and therefore over working iteself?

amp gain shouldn't make a difference, its either getting its 13.3V or it isn't..

I had this problem in my last car and all I needed was a fatter ground.

I currently run a LLC into a 600.1 amp runnung 2 subs @ 2ohms and have no worries. I have 4 gauge gound and 2 gauge power to a splitter then 4 gauge to the amp.

hope that helps, and like I said to start with, the ground is essential

I have had this problem with a different amp trying to use line level converters. I fried three sets of transistors trying to get it right... I had to turn the LLC right down to keep the signal semi clean. You are lucky the amp has that protection... mine fried the trannys first then lit up the over current light! Only happened when I turned it right up.

Do yourself a favour... get a decent deck!

that's interesting cuz I have a DLS CA10 monoblock in my ute, and it cuts out whenever it feels like it... pretty often.

I use the rockford fosgate line level splitters to get my rca outputs. this gives me 4 channels.

ive sent my amp away to have it checked and all is fine so its got me stuffed, now that I read your problem its made me think about the 0.5V signal.... is there anything on the market to boost it?

hey fella's, thanks for all the tips. I have finally got the answer from the very helpful fella's over at www.caraudioaustralia.com. It turns out the guys who installed the amp, sub, wiring and splits wired the sub for 2ohm (remember the sub is dual 4ohm voice core) which was bad consdering the amp doesnt run stable at 2ohm. the fellas advised how to rewire the sub to 8ohm, and wa la, works like a treat, nice and loud, and no more cutting out.

I would recommend anyone having issues to check em out, plus theres a few blokes there who have ba's who have done aftermarket steroes.

heres my thread.
