November 15, 200619 yr #23 Would we be able to get Sly in to confirm the legality of these pods please?←Imagine a box touching the top of the steering wheel, and the top corner touching the top of the A-pillar and going the same distance towards the centre anything obstructing your view within this field would be a defect, unless it was factory fitted ( nb- I think the pods on the centre of the dash should be outside of this box if done correctly). As for this pod it appears to be allright as it is mounted so low as to not cause an obstruction within the normal driving field or within the area I have defined that said we are all sometimes at the mercy of the highway patrol. As a word of caution this is my opinion and as such holds no weight in court. My opinion looks good and safe I'd leave it alone.←If this is your only issue, I doubt the HWP would bother defecting you for this item. They would be more likely to add it to a list of numerous items, BOV, bald tyres, vehilce ride height etc. The offence of 'drive vehicle with obscured vision', which could apply to your item is rarely enforced. Always remember that the boys in blue have to do all the proving beyond reasonble doubt, but I doubt it would ever get this far in your circumstances.
November 15, 200619 yr #24 as I said I had one in the corner on my old car then added another one higher up and never ever had any problems , ive had one cop actually stick his head in the window and he never said anything. but as Iconic Bionic said if they pull you up and book you for something else then they might ping you for your gauge holder

The defect, however, can be cleared by any authorsied mechanic for a small fee and your own time. The RTA cannot issue defects to privately registered vehicles yet (soon will), and a full inspection on the vehicle for a simple guage would be grossly unreasonable. Such defects are for major mechanical issues to do with the safety of the car, requiring a yellow or red defect label to be affixed, but not in this case.Amazing how you and I have similar info all the time
November 15, 200619 yr #28 my last car(sti) had twin gauges on a pillar and cops never hassled me once..
December 19, 200619 yr #29 Author I have a couple of weeks off work over Xmas & New Year and would like to source a Falcon BA-BF for a weekend in that time to make a couple of pods. I intend to make a single pod in the FPV position that fits a 60mm gauge (probably up to 40mm depth to accomodate Autometer and older style mechanical 60mm gauges) as well as a pod that sits at the base of the A-pillar. This will take an entire weekend to do. Is there anyone in Perth willing to loan their Falcon for a full weekend? I have loaned 9 cars from various people in the last few months and ALL have been very happy with my service and storage/treatment of their car. Any model BA-BF falcon will be suifficient.-Alan
