October 13, 200620 yr #1 IMO the design of the Drif6 inlet manifold is the most well engineered of the lot that is available. The only problem being is that the EMS has to be relocated to make it fit.If an extension harness was available the EMS could be relocated around where the aircleaner box is and everthing routed in the same way the DRif6 vehicle was done. But the big question is has anyone tried calling PRODRIVE/FPV to see if this manifold is available. I've tried getting numbers with no success. THe guy who made the manifold is Eric Crene from Prodrive. Andrew MacLean is the FPV Communications manager who had something to do with it also..
October 13, 200620 yr #2 " the Drif6 inlet manifold is the most well engineeered of the lot that is available" What available inlet manifolds are you referring to?As far as what has been written about the manifold, there was little to no engineering involved, apart from making the inlet pipe short to the front mount intercooler.
October 13, 200620 yr #3 I agree with you Turbotrana - the drif6 manifold is the way to go - it fills the cylinders the best. I am buying an old EL Falcon manifold to try and engineer an adaptor plate that lets you turn the top half around. Or if it doesn't work I will get the saw and the tig welder out and reverse the throttle body.I was also taking a look at some older Falcon manifolds - I think it's the EF or whatever - they are a "log" lype manifold with front entry - kind of like the Nizpro one but 'hang' a bit lower. Looks like it would be an easy/cheap swap over - but of course I have no idea if the head studs line up or are even close - being off a non-barra motor I guess it's not the same. Could also be a possibility for an adaptor plate but I think I'll leave that one to someone else.Anyone tried any of these combinations?
October 13, 200620 yr #5 Author APS tried to keep the throttle body in the middle of the manifold for good airflow distribution (good engineering intention) but IMO made their setup worse by having the convoluted intercooler piping sit right on top of the turbo exhaust manifold. So the intercooler cools the air only to get heated up again while it passes thru the engine bay on top of the exhaust manifoldIf they had of made an extension harness for the ECU (they have a harness for the Unichip so they could do it) and done a drif6 manifold I reckon this would be a better setup. The E series manifolds have a different bolt pattern and they would foul the aircon compressor even if you did a cut and weld job with BA flanges. There is someone on the forum who did reverse the throttle body on a BA manifold and from memory it looked OK but dont remember seeing it in the car. Maybe someone can dig that photo up.Nevertheless the stock manifold needs some more volume which the Drif6 has apparently 50% greater volume.
October 13, 200620 yr #6 Author BTW you cant turn the top half of the manifold around. I have a couple of the EF manifolds apart and no can do. Hard to explain without looking at it. Easier just to weld a new top half up which I think I will end up doing.
October 13, 200620 yr #7 the Drift F6 intake was slapped together by a very good welder with very little planing behind it. a reduction in pipe work is always a good thing. I put my trust in Honda F1 and say stick with the Nizpro intake the Drift F6 intake is just a for show.
October 13, 200620 yr #9 Andrew MacLean is the FPV Communications manager who had something to do with it also.. I meet Andrew MacLean and what a wa*ker............ won't go into it more than that this is not the place for it.The Drift F6 inlet was only put together for the open day at FPV and was at that time untested, later finding that the inlet wasn't harming the performance FPV have left it alone. FPV couldn't be seen putting another companies intake on it would look bad and be an endorsment of other peoples work. That Drift Car was a rush job in Feb and very little of it worked at the time it was shown to the public.Im a big fan of the Drift F6 and Im also a big fan of anyone whos up for having a go at making an intake that said what I know I don't share much of.Ive put a lot of time into looking at intakes, manly replacement upper units do bugger all for performance and realy shouldn't work, the right size isn't every thing you need runners and the runners need lenght. Funny how the Drift F6 car ended up at Spiro's (autotech) for tuning, question wasn't FPV up to the job?
October 13, 200620 yr #10 If the plenum wasn't harming performance why would you change it anyway it's not as though you would have seen huge difference in the end power figure if you used a plenum like nizpro's anyway. The drif6 is over 300rwkw anyway which for something that was really just thrown together it still has done alright.Funny how the Drift F6 car ended up at Spiro's (autotech) for tuning, question wasn't FPV up to the job? Not really they wanted a tuner to look at the car while it was in Sydney they chose Autotech. Its not as though they have all the facilities they need to tune and check the car when they travel state to state.
