I'd much rather have spats than stonechips up the side of my car :fool:

Besides, you can't even see em on a black car

:stupid:

Certainly serve their purpose

PS: Coffins take up to much space, and the bodies don't roll around too much!

Funny thing is that the actual "spats" cause more damage to the paint than the stone chips. Ever pulled one off after they have been on a car for a while.. Obviously not.. Plus they look like :pooh: and remind me of my grandpas car. And scrape when lowered.. If you think they protect your car by all means keep em on. Your car bro! :spit:

Funny thing is the stone chips don't hit the paint in a straight line in manner that can't be seen either. :stupid:

But if they're going to stay on there then why does it matter what happens behind them anyway?

Thanks very much for your concern though

Mainly coz once the paint goes down to the metal where they touch the body (Usually front ones only), the body rusts. This has happened to my old ladies Ef falcon which has had mud flaps from day one. And still has them by the way to hide the damage. My last 2 cars havnt had mud flaps and apart from the bonnet and front bars getting hammered on the H/way (I do quite alot of H/way driving every 2nd weekend as my olds have a holiday house 2 hours away, plus the place where the other house is is an island with no sealed roads), there is no other damage to the sides or under rear bars. Anyways, each to there own! Not tryin to start anything here btw. Just a friendly discussion..

:welcome2:

How many cars have ya got....more garage spaces than the local self storage depot...

looks like pics taken at Qld Raceway Willowbank

enjoy your new ride :spoton:

I have 2 cars at the moment, and yes the pics were taken out the front of the garage at QLD Raceway. My other car is a toyota starlet with a rebuilt turbo import engine running 20psi of boost with 172kw at the front wheels. hehehe, was racing it on the weekend and had the BA in tow driven by a friend of mine just in case the starlet couldn't make it home.

Used to driving something with an awesome power to weight ratio so the XR6T is a bit tame at the moment. Ford is supposed to be a daily driver so I want to keep the mods sensible. From experience, you need to spend a lot of money and time on keeping a highly modified car on the road - no matter how well it is looked after! Ford should be just as quick as the starlet once the phase II kit is on, as the starlet is a 12sec car if set up right.

Check out www.austarletclub.com - forums - events - and qld raceway one. Pg. 3 has the pics I believe.

Seems the mud flaps are a bit of an issue! Didn't really think to do anything about them, but may consider it now....

Rims came with the car, but was thinking of changning them down the track as they are bit common. :)

I had them on my last XR6 as well and I pulled them of to polish the car after they had been on for about 2 years. No damage to the paint at all.

Actually I could see this being a possibility, so within the first week of getting my car (new), I traced where the spats sat on the paint, and carefully cut out the same shape using a clear stick-on headlight protector, then stuck it on underneath. It only protrudes 2mm past the edge of the spats, its a clear film and it cannot be seen even up close. Problem solved :spoton:

Personally I think all cars should be made to have mudflaps by law, atleast then I could tailgate them without risk of stonechips :tease:
