Quiet 18" Tires?

From the pic of your car it looks like you have at least 18" rims (possibly 19?). Do you have the Eagle F1 GS-D3's on them? (ie are you speaking from experience with these tires on a large mag?).

As for the stereo... well yeah that works too !

Mate if you want a quiet tyre, Michelin make the quietest in the world.

They are also the best performing.

Michelin Pilot Preceda 2, or Michelin Pilot Sport 2.

Yes on both, Falcon XR6T with 17's (Pilot Preceda) and 18's (Pilot Sport 2)

The Pilot Sport 2's are the best road only tyre in the world. There is simply no comparison. Just google the tyre and you will see what I mean.

They provide the best wet+dry grip and the quietest ride for a road going tyre.

However, they are bloody expensive. Looking at $620 for an 18.

The Pilot Preceda 2 is also a great tyre, similar characteristics as the PS2, just not as good.

I am a bit dissapointed with the Preceda 2 compound though, after 8 hard laps of wakefield the tyres just started destroying themselves whilst the previous generation held on for 12 - 14 laps.

I've said this before...

If you want a sh*t tyre get some dunlops of any flavour

If you want a decent tyre get some yokohama v103s, or Goodyear F1's

If you want a good tyre get some Pirelli P Zero Nero's or Michelin Pilot Preceda 2's

If you want a great tyre get some Pirelli P Zero Rosso's or Michelin Pilot Sport 2.

If you want a quiet tyre, get something from the Michelin Pilot range.

If you want a cheap and / or long lasting tyre, see comments about dunlops.

I prefer dunlops! the ST001's and the FM901's I had lasted my magna about 35kish, and were brilliant grip factor! (really needed good tyres to control 300kw at the front)

id get FM901's again without any hesitation! as for your comment about dunlops being cheap sh*tty tyres - I think you might of gotten Kmart tyre and auto to fit their 35$ used dunlop specials, from last weeks catalogue hehe.

The difference between dunlop and michelin is enourmous! I am currently running pp2's on the front and sp3000s on the rear and it is amazing how noisy the back is now compared to my earily quiet front!

and the grip is definately there!

Why do want a quiet tyre? Your only going to hear all the other rattles, squeaks etc. these cars make.......

Not only the tyres mentioned but also flavours of Bridgestone, Kumho, Maxis, etc...

Your standard sh*thouse Dunlop SP9000, even sh*tter Dunlop SP3000 or halfway between ok and decent Dunlop Sport Max are better than the FM901's. Look at the ratings on the sidewall, they tell you that.

If you want a performance tyre, dont look at dunlop.

The Pilot Sports and Pilot Preceda's do look to be coming out top. However I have a question. The tread on the Michelin Pilot Preceda is quite different to most sport tires - the Pilot Sport looks more traditional with the large diagonal channels. To my very untrained eye it looks like the Pilot Preceda wouldn't be all that good in the wet. Given that I live in Auckland that is an important consideration...

So has anyone found the Preceda's suck in the wet?
