Well, both the sender and the gauge in my old XR8 have decided not to play ball no more (both reading too low) so I'm on the look out for a new gauge. To get a replacement gauge I'd just be running the risk of it failing again. (Would only be wrecker yard special)

Ideally I'd be looking for some kind of Full Sweep Electrical but the only one I can find was an Autometer gauge in Farenheit, which is the only Imperial measurement I can't convert/get my head around.

Aparently the local Repco has Speco gauges for $25 each at the moment and I'm just wondering how people feel about them? Are they accurate and reliable?

Any help/hijack would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Lumpy :tease:

LP, you could not get a cheaper gauge if you tried.

I would get the factory one sorted out before shelling out for that cheap chinease crap. It is very unusual to have both the sender and gauge faulty, it pays to get it sorted out properly. I am sure the parts from Fraud are resonable.

Can't comment on the speco range, never used them.

The VDO Cockpit range has metric scales, and also has the same type of pictorial graphic as in the Ford dash gauges... In fact, I think the FORD dash is made by VDO.

VDO Cockpit range

I have an oil temp and boost gauge fitted in an FPV pod.

Made a small mod to replace the lamps with some ultra-bright blue leds, and they look good enough to being factory style gauges.

The VDO range has mechanical and electrical style gauges....

If you have a mate in the auto-electrical trade, he might be able to get them for you at trade price?

The parts aren't available from Ford anymore Zap. 15 year old car. :pinch:

I had the auto sparky test the thing for me and the gauge read consistenly low.

At 240 Ohms it is meant to read in the blue part of the gauge and it wasn't registering and at 60 Ohms it is meant to be about 1/3 of the was up, but the gauge wasn't even in operating :spoton:

He did similar for the sender, but I cant remember what the figures were. :fool:

Thanks for the remarks on the gauge too. :msm:

Thanks for the link Tom, you're right about VDO making the Ford dash, well at least in the EB. I have a trip computer here with VDO numbers all over it.

that's what I'm after, I've VDO are good quality and the autosparky can get them for me, I just saw these Speco Gauges on special up the local Repco, but then again, I guess they're $25 for a reason :pinch:

Cheers,

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Pay attention to the master Fats...

Ive used them before on other cars and compared to an autometer they aint 100 % on the ball, but it wont be 20-30% out of range if that's what your thinking it might be
