You'll get wildly differing opinions on this. Here's my take.

The general consensus is that you need to bed the rings in as soon as you can, BEFORE going full synth. Simply, use the factory mineral oil for say the first 3,000kms. Then, when you take it to Ford get them to change the oil and filter, make sure they refill with the appropriate grade oil (not full synth). Demand they use the right spec ie 15W-40, not 0W-40 full synth for example (yet).

Basically you need to run an oil that's not too thin during the run-in period.

I did as follows:

0-3000kms, factory mineral. Run in was lots of throttle, keeping it below 4,000rpm.

3k-7500kms, Mobil semi-synth. Still heaps of full throttle, below 5000rpm.

7500kms on, full synth, has been on ever since. Currently use Castrol Edge 0W-40.

Nizpro for example when running an engine in, use Mobil semi-synth for the first 1000kms I think, then go full synth. You can be sure though, that they've run the engine in fully before switching full synth.

My car has dyno'd very well, so all's good (looking at over 20,000kms since Dec '05). I change oil and filter every 7,500kms. Like I said, that's just MHO, one of many here.

can somebody clarify me on oils? some say to use mineral oil to 10,000kms then change to semi or fully synthetic.whats everybodys opinion on this.pls help as I am confused on which is the best way to run in the engine

As above, you'll have to make that switch alot earlier in the engines life.

iam thinking about to change my oil now as the car is due for a service

currently useing Castrol atm what other oil do you reckonmend?? oh and the car atm is on 100,000kms
