Bad Vibrations

Well hello PPL

I had my T in at the dealer once again to have another go at getting the vibration out of the rear of the car as well as getting the hand brake fix and for them to check out the rear end re a clicking noise..

Well all but the vibration were fixed.. According to them they have made some more adjustments to the tail shaft but its still not right.. I asked them what are we gonna do if its not fixed this time.. Service guy says" We will cross that bridge when and if we get to that." WE HAVE CROSSED IT!!!!!

They service guy told me that they balanced the wheels to try and get rid if it but it did not work. They even pulled the shaft out and reckon its perfect. Im sorta wishing now I had the old diff back in it.. Whining VS Vibration??? what would you prefer??

The vibration is mainly there from 110 to 130 but when you lift your foot right off the pedal its worse..

What else could it be???

I know im having a bit of a go but the Dealer has been pretty good about it.. I wouldnt say I love my dealer but " They go alright"

3 things I have to add, when I buggerised a rear uni joint in my jeep it had bad vibration, recently lowered the back of my car and wat do ya know my 90km vibration has gone, also noticed when you lift a 4wd you change the driveshaft to pinion angle and that causes vibration. I queried ford about my recent discovery today, they seem to think the driveshaft is out of balance (then why isnt it doing it now) maybe you should investigate your drive shaft to pinion angle and see if that solves your problem. Is your car lowered or stock suspension height?

do you have aftermarket wheels? if so take them to a tyrecentre like beaurepairs and ask for a 'finger balance'. they will balance the wheel using the studs instead of the wheel centre.

I had the same problem as you, but soon as I got it done the car was smooth as.

I have had a vibration in the rear for 2yrs,6x diffs,2x tailsharfts.2x drive sharfts,3 sets of tyers and 2 sets of wheels and still not fixed

yep I got it too. been back about 8 times. its still not right, but its as good as its ever been and it aint getting worse so I've given up.....

Yeah they reckon they checked the rear wheels and they are spot on. They are the standard wheels and its not lowered (YET).. This all started when they changed the diff.

I had rear end vibs after each of my 3 diff changes but this was at around 80kmph - initially because they neglected to balance the the prop/tail shafts (which I understand has to be done on the vehicle and is a mandatory part of the diff replacement proc). Finally, much better now after 3 years and the last diff change where I made sure that a prop/tailshaft balance and rear end alignment had been undertaken.

I also think that the OEM tyres can contribute to this even when apparently balanced. For one of the earlier vibrations the dealer thought it was loose baffals in the rear exhaust box. Replacement did make a difference but the underlying vibration was still there
