Nice choice of cpu, not a fan of the foxconn boards though.

IMO, Instead of the 200gb hdds, I'd get 2 x 250gb SATA-II WDs with a 16mb cache. Very fast drives and only like 160 bucks now.. cheap as chips.

I'd go with an nvidia gforce card too, but that's open to opinion ;D

apart from that, looks like a good setup

what about 2 x 320GB Sata2 with 16mb caches!!! I can get them for $158ea at the moment.. I cant believe how cheap hardware is nowadays!! less than 50c a GB !

Is it possible to run IDE and Sata drives together and further to the point is it possible to run both IDE HDD's and SATA HDD's concurrently in harmony?

For example would it be possible to run 2 optical drives, 2x750gb IDE and 2x750gb SATA drives?Hypothetically?

Hey Lumpster yeah no problem with running IDE's and SATA if your mother board has connections for both, boot drive should be configuarble in bios. However if you wish to run a raid confiruation I.e a raid mirror or stripe most mother boards would only support raid on the SATA channels. Theres a ton of ways you could configure such a system, you could load your operating system and programs on the IDE drives with all your data stored on the faster SATA drives in a raid mirror so your data is always safe. Or you could stick 4x SATA drives in one fast stripe array, a freind of mine has this config runs it mainly for games, very fast but if you loose one drive you loose everything. Personally I would put 2x large fast HDD on the SATA channel setup with a raid mirror for everything, with a cheap IDE for temp storage I.e movie / mp3 download etc and burning that way your operating system and program drives arent constantly being fragmented because of downloading / burning / deleting over and over. This setup would also let you burn from the IDE drive to IDE burner whilst you flog the sata drives doing what ever your into e.g games, compiling video etc on your SATA mirror without worrying about interupting the buring etc.

And if you wanted to get a little more technical split your SATA raid mirror into 2 partitions, installing your operating system and programs on partition 1 with your documents, email, data etc on parition 2. That way if your operating system gets screwed beyond recovery from virus or other wise you can reload windows on partition 1 and all data still avalible on parition 2.

My AMD XP-3000 (1.8GHZ overclocked to 2.2 at a nice 26 degrees), with an overclocked 7600GT to 7800GT spec (soon to be SLi) & 1GB OCZ RAM sounds primitave indeed. Oh well, it does me for now.
