So there is this guy at my work that has a BA Fairmont GHIA V8.

He keeps going on about how my car has turbo lag and so on and that his 'beast' has power on demand and so on and so on..

He used to have racing cars when he was younger , so I think he knows what he is talking about... so I did some research..

apparently the GHIA V8 , has 220 KW.. (which I thought was weird since the Xr8 has 260.. (apparently different V8's..)

so now I am thinking, ok, well my stock T has 240  , then I should beat him, but still makes me wonder..

I have told and showed him the power differences, but he still reckons he would do me.. so I am a little hesitant now, he does after all 'seem' like he knows what he is talking about, or is he just playing 'my dad is better than your dad...

any thoughts?

Not only do you have a power advantage, you have a torque 'spread' advantage, a weight advantage and a traction advantage....

He has a heavy front end, soft suspension, less power, peaky torque and a fat arse....

The v8 ghia is over a second slower down the quarter......

Once your satisfied that he hasn't got any mods, take him up on is offer providing he's prepared to put his money where his mouth his.

If he's got plenty to waste, let me know and I'll have a bit of the action

Here are some simple facts for your mate.

Power to weight: XR6T 6.88 kg/kw Ghia 7.56 kg/kw

0-100: XR6T 6.2sec Ghia 7.56sec

1/4 mile XR6T 14.3 sec Ghia 15.5sec

These are the car specs from Wheels/Motor

The rest is up to the driver..

Me think your mate is playin with himself...

Yes if the Ghia is stock you should beat him!

But if has done some work to the Ghia then it might be a more even game.

I think a stock V8 Ghia is quicker then what is stated above, but still slower then then Turbo.

my thoughts as well. I think they just tweaked the results to make the holdens look better... xr6 turbos stock can do 13.8's :P

which means the ghias can probably do a little better too.

either way. its all in your favour. smoke him

Just have a drag man, its to much fun. the Turbo should beat it, theres not much lag and yip the fairmont ghia are only 220 kw.

Once the V8 got wound up it could be a bit more interesting but off the mark you should have no trouble at all. Nm do count for a lot though.

Look forward to hearing how it goes
