Just a quick one...

Was driving in to work this morning behind a car with a trailer... trailer was empty and a bit jumpy then all of a sudden a few stone pieces shower my car... windscreen & bonnet... managed to get the rego of the trailer (which was a rental) on digital camera...

Now for my question: do I have a resonable chance of getting the responsible driver or his insurance company to pay up?

I would hate to say it but I think you wouldnt have a hope in hell, unless you collect the stone pieces and match them up with the ones in his trailer. How do you prove that its his stones that made the damage? All you might be able to do is ask the hire company for the hirer's details and confront them. There might be a smidge of honesty in him but I wouldnt count on it.

Its an unfortunate situation :(

Hate to say it, but no chance...

Assuming that you get through to someone who cares in the insurance co, they'd ask you to prove it actually came from the trailer (which would be impossible without video footage actually showing it happening) and that the stone chips where not there before hand.

Is it much damage or more the principal of the thing?

There's one nasty chip on the front of the bonnet which has actually dented the panel (which BTW - are all panels these days made out of toilet paper?) and a couple on the windscreen - so yeah its the damage and principal thing??? Fark I hate Freeways in that respect....

In that situation the only way to get the person to pay for it is to chase them and get them to pull over.

I had a dent in my car from another car's door, luckily I saw it happen and ran over to get the guy before he drove off. He couldnt deny it was his fault so I got his details.
