06/04/06 04:52 AM06/04/06 04:52 AM #1 Sent my car to Ford service today for what I was told was a failing fuel pump. They have just rang me and have now said that the car has been over boosting and they will need it overnight to fully diagnose the issue.I suppose my number 1 concern is will this over boost have damaged the internals of my engine? Rods and so on? Your thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
06/04/06 04:55 AM06/04/06 04:55 AM #2 Simon,I would not worry as every T has over boosted at one point in there life. There was a software upgrade about this time last year that fixed this problem. There is also a problem with the wastegate actuator that could cause this problem. The ECU would register this condition and I guess they will flash the ECU and take it for a thrash...I mean test drive to see if it is still a problem. They might also be checking to see if it has been edited.
06/04/06 05:05 AM06/04/06 05:05 AM #3 Author Thanks Zap_F6,They have told me that they have already re-flashed the ECM as it had some incorrect settings (Diff Ratio and so on) This has been updated to the latest file.I am just concerned as the car is out of warranty next month. I might talk to Simon @ NizPro as I am going to get the car EDITed when the warranty is up and see if he has any suggestions. Thanks again
06/04/06 11:45 PM06/04/06 11:45 PM #4 Author More Confussion!!!I just spoke with Dave @ NizPro and he said he doesn't believe it is over boosting!! When I drive the car it feels like the Traction Control is coming on and car is misfiring. Dave thinks it might be plugs. If I keep the engine below about 2,500rpm it is fine but as soon as it comes on boost it starts this misfire.Has anybody else had this type of issue and if so what was the fix? Anyway, I am sending it to NizPro on Wednesday for them to have a look and also give me list of problems to get fixed before my warranty is up next month.
07/04/06 12:32 AM07/04/06 12:32 AM #5 Simon,It could be several things, but I suspect it will be in the plugs/leads/coilpack area. You are doing the right thing having real mechanics look for any problems before the warranty is up.
08/04/06 11:42 AM08/04/06 11:42 AM #6 Author Ford replaced the boost sensor and wiring as they said this was the problem. Anyway, on the way home the car was continuing to break down so I called them back and they suggested I bring it back this morning. I took the Tech on a test drive and showed him this breaking down issue. We plugged the computer in and went for another drive. So, the final answer was that the number 2 coil pack was breaking down under load. Ford replaced it this morning and it back to it's wonderful self. I also added a K&N Air Filter. I am looking forward to the performance and fuel economy benefit!!

08/04/06 09:19 PM08/04/06 09:19 PM #8 If it's going to Nizpro there is little point in wasting your time fishing for suggestions here - if Dave cannot sort it then neither the forum nor Ford will. Of greater interest is us all learning what the symptoms were and then after the Nizpro visit what the diagnosis and cure was.Good luck with it but your are in safe hands....and say gudday to Dave and Ryan for me when there.Cheers,Dingah

They have been great. Mark and Lee have always been super helpful and nothing is ever a problem. I only had the CAI fitted about 3 weeks ago and I only fitted the K&N yesterday. The car is out of warranty at the end of May so Ford shouldn't have a problem but I have kept the original filter and if they do, I will change the filter back to standard until the warranty runs out then I will refit the K&N.

This was typically happening above about 2,500 rpm with WOT. If I drove the car below this or not WOT, it was fine. They initially said that it was the fuel pump but when they put the computer on it the fuel pressure was fine so then they started looking at boost problems. Ford then found an issue with the boost sensor so thought it may have been over boosting! They replaced the boost sensor and wiring as the wiring had rubbed through and then fried the sensor. The final issue was then determined as a breaking down coil pack. They replaced this and the car is now great. I am taking the car to NizPro on Wednesday to get them to check the car over before the warranty runs out in May. I will then have the car booked back into Ford to have the list from Nizpro fixed. Hopefully they won't find too much!! I think the car is in pretty good shape. I may have NizPro custom tune the car this week if there is no warranty issues. I will keep you posted on any warranty issues or the result of the custom tune. I will say G'Day to Dave and Ryan for you.Simon
