car went in to ford rockingham wed for new 5th gear syncros, steering shudder, cracked shifter boot, and indicator problem, and it poping out of 2nd on decel, and I dont think im EVER going back there..

indicator problem was in the stalk, they replaced, no problem..

5th gear syncros replaced, my tranzmax z fluid put in, no problem, except I gave them 4L and got f*ck all back!! dont the trans only take 2.2L??? :stirthepot:

see below pic for how I got the shifter boot back :smilielol:

I think there is a piece missing from inside there!! was gonna complain but it was 5.30 and I'd had plenty enough for the day..

they didn't even check or report on the shudder and 2nd gear problem!!

the only good news is that the tranzmax Z makes the box sooooo much better.

I rekon the box is >300% better now. clunking is HEAPS less, especially between gears.

so thanks guys for the tip on the tranzmax z and thanks ford FOR NOTHING!!

FORD mandurah here I come..

/ rant..

I have had EXACTLY the same issue with the shifter boot... the problem is they dont replace the boot with the 5sp one, but the 6sp one instead. The 6sp boot and metal ring below the handle is smaller, but some numb nut at ford thought it would be fine to have the 5sp big ring with the 6sp small boot. I managed to get a 6sp ring to match the boot from my dealer, but it was a second hand one which had a couple of scratches in it. Ford need to realise this error and start supplying the correct 6sp ring to match the boot.

Take it back and demand the 6sp ring. I feel like contacting ford directly about this myself.

is there no 5speed boots left or something??

looking at it the actual boot is smaller, and seems to be more stretched into the gears..

so do you just need the 6sp ring or whole shift knob?

Just the replacement ring... the 5sp boot was prone to cracking because of low quality so the 6sp boot is the only one available now (ie its a Ford recall). The ring that is sticking out is a separate piece. Suggestion: take the knob off NOW!!!! before the loctite has a chance to stick and you need a new gearstick completely. It will just unscrew.

Hello XR06T, Know how you feel.

If there was a prize for the worst ford dealer in Aussie Challanger Ford would win hands down, running my own workshop I dont know how these guts get away with the jobs they do down there.

I wont bore you with the drama I had with my BA Ute and warranty work done there but lets say it wasnt pretty, did have the advantage of workshop hoist to check workmanship after they had finished.

Hope you have better luck in Mandurah.

Cheers

Steve and Kieran - you're cracking your gearstick boots because you're changing gears too fast! :spoton::spoton: that's what you get for sub 14 second quarters in standard Ts with T5s! I think my boot will last for ever!

Got some Transmax Z at home - just have to put it in. Sounds like its well worth it.
