I am a 250cc rider and have been riding for a year and a half now. I used to be one of these people that was highly against lane splitting, but since owning a bike, I would say it is a safe manouver on the roads if everyone treats riders with respect. It's the jealous idiots that spoil it for riders. People that open their doors or swerve to block the lane. If it doesn't effect you, why be a d!ck head about it. Everyday I see the M1 chocked with traffic into the city and I will travel in the shoulder to pass slow moving traffic. Why is it that the car drivers are the first to complain, yet I see hundreds of cars daily, in traffic jams with only one person in the car. What a waste! I think everyone should get a bike for daily commuting then we would all have no traffic jams and we wouldn't have to worry about lane splitting.I think most bike riders thought that lane splitting was already illegal so a change in the law isn't going to stop them. And how many cops have you seen do it, let's stop them also if that's the case.Anyway, my rambling is over, keep safe, slow lane filtering legal. Posted 25/01/06 10:50 PM Share Posted 25/01/06 10:50 PM I think that this subject is the same as many others that involve our roads. If everyone, including the law makers and law enforcers used a commonsense approach we'd all be better off. I'll start by letting everyone know that whilst I have never ridden a bike on the road I do sympathise with bike riders. Alot of my fiends, partners and employees ride bikes in 2 of my closest friends. If I'm in traffic and see a bike coming I'll try to move over to give them room to move through. The reason I don't ride is I'd probably ride like I drive and be the victim of some idiot car driver. The problem we have is that not all people on motorbikes are enthusists. If this was the case there would be no problems as most enthusists have done 1 or more riding courses and some have participated in track days. These riders respect the road and conditions and other motorists and make allowances for idiot drivers. It's the other 70% of people on motorcycles who are clueless and try to follow what the enthusist is doing. This results in damaged cars and bikes pissing off car drivers. This is why the enthusists don't understand why alot of motorists are pissed of with bike riders. It's not only the bikes where this is the case. The same applys with motorcars. There are a small % of good drivers surrounded by a bunch of unskilled untrained idiots that drive a car like they are a passenger on a train, completely oblivious to those around them. It's these people that go slow in the fast lane or travel 3 accross on a quiet 3 lane road, doing 70 in an 80 zone, holding up the other drivers. The requiremenst to get both car and bike licences should be much tougher and involve alot more training. This would eliminate alot of accidents and lower the road toll a great deal.Geea. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yeah I think your right on the money they Geea when it comes to motor bikes \ cars and lack of training... Like everything you get the people who can ride and those who can't, and problem is those who can't are likely to get themselves killed, or at a minimum do damage to the cars around them...I have a few friends who ride bikes and I'd say most of them are about as sensible as it comes when riding and they always complain when they see a d*ckhead on a bike as it gives all bikers a bad name... I hate the fact that the only thing the government is willing to do when it comes to licensing people for cars, is extend the amount of time they have to spend on their L's and P's (I think it's around 3 years now from L's to full license in NSW). There should be more actual time and effort spent on training courses. It's almost rare that you don't see a P plater overtaking at speed and driving recklessly. To get your bike license you have to complete a competency course on the bike displaying skills to the testers that will be required in pretty much all circumstances (once for L's and once for P's). Wet weather, emergency braking, cornering and u-turns, balance at low speed, etc...They should introduce something similar for cars. Training and testing for driving skills in adverse road conditions, emergencies, cornering, etc...True this still doesn't weed out the idiots, but it does give a majority of riders the ability to deal with a wide range of situations.I guess you can't really get rid of idiots forever. They're everywhere! On bikes, in cars, in trucks, behind computers, in politics, in the media, in the military, flying kites... pick a situation... there's likely to be an idiot I'll stop rambling now Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/22796-lane-splitting-to-become-illegal/page/6/#findComment-340793 Share on other sites
