Hi,

I have a question for those owners who got thier cars optioned wit the 250w Premium Sound System...as it is called.

Basically I would like to know whether the subwoofer (ie. fitted under the back window parcel area) is an optional item with this system or whether it should come as standard. All those who ordered the 'premo sound' (not the lux pack though) have you been specifically asked during the initial purchase whether you want the subwoofer as well?

Reason I'm asking is that mine never got fitted.... which according to someone that works at Ford, it should have but when I enquired about this with my dealer I was told that it's an optional item. Apparently only the Lux Pack cars (ie. Fairmonts get it as standard) for all others it's an optional item even with the premo sound.

Hope there are enough people on the forum that can clarify this for me.

Regardless, if I had to have one fitted, what approx would I be looking for in $'s for one of equivalent quality (or better) that fits the back parcel opening.

Thanks in advance

I got the premium sound system and the subwoofer came as a set. They mentioned nothing to me that the subwoofer was extra. :spoton:

While we're at it, does anyone have a picture of the prem.sound subwoofer installed in the boot... like, the default location that most people use? Thanks if you do.

All factory subwoofers are installed on the rear parcel shelf, in the middle.

It will be in front of the window mount brake light.

Sub Woofer came standard with the Permium sound, I did not have to ask for it.

8 inch free to air.

It had to be replaced - this one didn't last long either - they don't cope and distort so the next one will be aftermarket

so not DOOF DOOF enough

250W premium system? I am looking at the spec sheet right now and premium audio includes: colour display screen, 6-disc in dash CD, 150W amp and 150W sub woofer.

Are you sure they didn't give you the "prestige" audio instead?

If you have the colour screen you should have the Sub.

If yuo have the LCD screen with the 6 stacker.....No Sub

Thanks for all your replies. It sounds like I was just brushed off on the phone.

Yeah, I have the factory LCD color screen as I had also fitted a TV Tuner and it comes up pretty good - see my other post if interested. Now having the amp and not sub??? Yeah I thought that is a bit strange...but these days that's how manufacturers make money....having options on options....doesn't look like that's the case here.

Some of you tend to indicate that the factory 'subeee' is nothing to rave about. Provided the rest of the system stay standard, what type of money would I be looking to get one that will still fit into the standard area and provide more decent performance. I'm not really after the best of the best but something in the midrange that's reasonable and still 'fits like a glove' with the rest.

I have Premium Sound and have a sub and amp. Maybe in the MkII it's an option? Or maybe someone fcuked up and are trying to cover their arse.

I'm not sure that the sub is actually 8" as Sazza suggests, I thought it was some oddball size like 8 1/2" or 9" but I could be wrong. For a decent amp and sub you are probably up for $250-$300.
