Boot Rust!

I to have the rust in the boot. Took it to ford and they started by sounding very surprised and that there could'nt be rust in the car. Showed them and their tune changed. They have told me today that it will be repaired under warranty (great), but they said that thae body shop they suby out to is booked up untill chrissy so Ill have to wait until January. They also let it slip that they have seen this quite a few times before.

Well I am glad to report as I was a little worried there is no rust at all though someone took a liking to my car with a shopping trolly sometime last week and put a scratch in the flare above the right rear wheel BASTARDS

Something for you all to consider.

If you live or operate your car up to 15km from the coast and in anything like a warm climate then you are operating it in an extremely corrosive environment 24/7. Defence has been studying/surveying our aircraft for several years to try and ascertain the major causes of corrosion which remains one of our biggest issues to combat in retaining aircraft servicability. We have determined that even storing or hangaring aircraft in air conditioned hangars in effect retains exposure to salt laden atmospheres if those hangars are sited within 15-20km of the coast and the effects of just sitting in that atmosphere can be as corrosive as actually operating them over the sea surface.

Frequent fresh water washing, de-humidifcation and the use of water dispersants llike WD-40 are absolute musts if you are serious about corrosion prevention, regardless of the level of anti-corrosive cmpounds used at manufacture.

That is why you almost never encounter cars in the ACT with significant corrosion - there had to be something good about the ACT after all.

I have been told that they paint a rust converter over all the affected areas. This is also suppose to penetrate the joint. Then a spray paint over that.

That's fine and dandy Dingah but it's not like my car is corroding all over the place. It's only confined to the small area pictured. This is obviously due to a manufacturing fault hence why they cover it under warranty.
