Yeah, they have a good reputation, and for even a hunderd bucks, Its not a big $$$ item.

heres a couple of pics of the fan and where it' live...now i just gotta nut out some brackets and wire it in...

as for the varible voltage question i dont see it being a problem if the signal for the realy is run off the power supply to the main fans if the voltage is too low on the low speed setting the relay just wont switch...will see how it goes

Nice! exactly what I have ordered. I spoke to Davies Craig today, and the Tech guy a talked to suggested rather than using the ecu wires to utilise the fan, just to buy the mechanical thermal switch (part no 0401) and attach it to the top radiator hose. It will reduce any problems that tampering with ecu wiring will involve.

The switch can be adjusted to turn on the fan anywhere between 80 and 115 degrees. It will cost a little extra for the switch, but to me seems a safe, easy way to activate the fan.

He also said the electric fan motor wont have any trouble handling reduced voltage should I wish on the other hand to use the ecu wiring to activate it. So your way should work too.

my plan was to use the power supply for the fans to switch the signal for the realy. theres already a relay for the fans. the davis craig guy wouldnt recommend using the ecu to switch the fans because u can get some voltage spikes from the coil magnetic field in the relay colapsing when the realy is turned off. it wouldnt be an issuse if the relay was switched be the power being supplied to the fans....do u get what i mean?

Yeah, basically what your saying is you are only using the ecu wire to activate the relay, not the actual fan power?

no not quite...the ecu switchs the relay for the factory cooling fans. the relay im planning to use will be switch on by using the power that runs the fans to switch the relay on.

Oh, ok, so the existing relay drops in first, then your new fan's relay will use the power after the existing relay to activate??

looks great mate...just be mindfull of using steel mounting hardware when mounting ur cooler (im just guessing its aluminum...yes?) DONT use the bolts they give u to stick through the core of the cooler they will f*ck it in no time....im pretty jealous of the braided line and fittings u used...how much did they set u back if you dont mind me asking....one other idea i had was to louver the plastic innner front fender to help the hot air escape when stationary.....dont feel lonely mate as far as making furniture goes im a great plant mechanic... :blink:

Thanks mate, As anyone who knows me, knows I wont put sh#t components in my car!!!!! :msm:

The braided line is about $40 a metre, and the connection fittings are about $30 to $45 each, depending on the angles etc. All up, without the tranny cooler about an extra $250

I had to get Enzed to custom build a fitting that returns the fluid back into the return line, as the entire tranny cooler doesnt use any hose clamps, Just dash 6 screw fittings.

All the installation brackets are made of primed 6mm alloy, as will all the fan mounting brackets.

Bump!

Just an update for anyone interested, I put my thermo fan in for my tranny cooler.

Used the power from the existing thermo fans to activate a relay for the new thermo, then fitted a diode in the relay activation line to stop any back flow of power to the ecu or the existing fans.

The result, a consistantly cooler tranny cooler. Every time I hear the current thermo fans come on, I know the tranny is getting help too!

It does work a treat, only thing is the slight noise from the fan now. At least its saving the auto.
