October 27, 200520 yr #1 ive herd a couple of you guys talking about how u pulled out the center muffler to make it louder and when I went 2 ask an exhaust company about it they said it would be 2 loud and 2 pull out the resonator insted...just wondering what you guys think about it? is it to loud with the center muffler taken out?
October 27, 200520 yr #2 What resonator? Unless it's hiding in all the heat shielding, there is only a centre and rear muffler. I've replaced my centre muffler with hotdogs and would not want to go any louder as it would attract unwanted attention.
October 28, 200520 yr #3 hey turbomuz, what did it cost ya to get hotdogs put in?? im gonna ring a few places this arvo but everything varies that much over here I dont wanna be stitched up haha
October 28, 200520 yr #5 nang3 I was quoted 300 or something by the only company I rang. Id shop around heaps and even go to some custome exhaust places. There is a place next to ARB in osbourne park (close to your work!!) that does custome exhausts. I have been meaning to stop there as they quoted me a good price for the old 4be. cheers mate.
October 28, 200520 yr #6 I thought the rear (muffler) was a resonator.I think you're right, David.turbro, if this is the advice the exhaust place gave you, I'd personally steer clear of them. Removing the rear muffler will see you in all sorts of trouble, mainly large power losses. The centre muffler is the way to go. Many members have replaced the centre muffler with straight through pipes and loved the resulting noise. If you think that's gonna be too loud for you, then you can always replace the muffler with a couple of hot dogs. Do a search mate, there have been plenty of threads on this topic.
October 28, 200520 yr #7 I am still baffled as to how removing either a muffler or a resonator will result in less power - unless the lack of backpressure alters how a tune works, in which case the tune needs a tickle up rather than the muffler or resonator making more power by being there.
October 28, 200520 yr #8 yeh I might just go for some straight thru pipes and if its too loud hten il just throw some hotdogs in there..IH8PORK - have you had any quotes on just straight thrus' ???hows that stezza going???
October 28, 200520 yr #9 hey guys I removed the rear muffler from my car and it sounded like sick truck.I hated it, ended up replacing the whole thing with a 3" cat back system happy now!!!
October 28, 200520 yr #10 Nang the quote was for straight through pipes so I thought it was way too much. I rang Perth exhaust centre a while back and they didnt seem to know much about it despite a forum member saying they had it done there before. Im not bagging Perth exhaust centre, I just probably didnt get hold of the right guy there. Stezza is much better I reckon....alot better to listen to before as it doesnt seem to irritate my ears now like it did before!!!.
