Get the 'phoon, you won't be disappointed - except for the driveline shunt/lash. Worst aspect of the car but geez, I love hearing that change buzzer!

Yeah - if speed wasn't important to me the Forester would be the perfect car. Well built, practical reliable and awesome resale. (Paid $32k driveaway in Jan 2003, offered $24k with 50k kms on clock by a large dealer in Jan 2005)

Every service I try to find something wrong with it that can be checked under warranty and can never find anything.

Always a few things on the warranty list for the T but it makes me grin every time I drive it so I forgive it.

Gotta agree with ya if the t's were half as good as a subie they would sell by the bucket load.

New forrester 5 kw less than an sti and not bad on the eye either.

just bought wife a new outback didnt think of an forrester till I picked up the outback very nice!!

I'd wait another 2 months and go for the series II Phoon, hopefully, some of those current issues would have been sorted by then.

Mate, wait a short time for the 6spd auto Phoon coming out. My 4 spd auto in my ordinary T is quite good but the 6 spd should be great!

You may pay a bit more for the later model but your resale further on will be better anyway. Wish I was in your position to have this choice. Good luck!

The subi's are quick and refined, and the mazda seems to be shaping up pretty well too. But you kinda answered it for yourself...

You want a FAST car, go the phoon.

The others just can't cut it in the whoosh factor like the typhoon can.

Either one will do.

6 speed auto sounds good, but you sound like a manual fan. Not having had an auto before, I'd jump on the manual to be on the safe side....

Either way you can't lose.

Easy question mate.

If you want an auto, wait for mk3. If you are happy with the manual buy the demo Phoon. it will have much better resale than an optioned up T. The F6 mk3 wont bring any power changes so you wont be missing out there. Being a demo you can take it for a long drive and check that driveline lash isn't an issue. There is a large sample variance, this is one benefit of buying a manual demo. Of course it could develop later on but its a start if the car is ok now.

Those are all the same cars I considered earlier this year...

I love my Buffoon.

The Liberty GT is very small (tall person and sunroofs dont mix.)

3.0RB is a bit too slow for my liking.

MPS looks to be even slower, same power as GT and over 200kg heavier.(a light duty car that requires a lot of reinforcement to cope with the power increase from the Turbo)

A fully optioned T will only be a bit cheaper to buy initially, but worth far less at trade in time (as options are almost worthless according to your trade in valuer)

My T was an auto and I much prefer the 6 speed manual, even in the city (some cruel folk say Canberra is not a city) I will be taking I for its first trip to Sydney next week, my opinion may be different then.

Nothing comes near it for road presence (even dunnydore drivers like it), space (for the wife and kids), go (straight out of the box), and its thown together by Australians.

Easy decision...the only real choice if to get a Lightning Strike, Rapid, Blue Pearl or Silhouette.

Get the phoon.

Even if it has the worst driveline shunt in the world, get them to give you a slightly better price and then simply take your car down to Mal Wood.

Throw them a small wad of cash and you will have the smoothest falcon driveline possible, you won't be disapointed...

The T I drove had horrible driveline clunk, and this would have to be the only issue that I would consider spending my own money on to get resolved... (If I was fortunate enough to own one...).

No matter how fun pulling 3rds is, as soon as you start driving sedately, the clunk will get anoying... Once fixed, its all happy days
