Canberra Sth East Nsw Cruise 17th July 2005

It seems like people were interested in a cruise, but no one wanted to organise it, so here it goes :)

I think this will be a great opportunity to meet new members (there seems to be a fair few lately) and catch up with the old ones :spoton:

Canberra - Cooma - Candelo - Merimbula - Pambula - Bombala - Cooma - Canberra

When: Meet @ Gull Petrol Station Hume on the Monaro Hwy. 9am Sunday 17th July 2005

We will be leaving @ 9:30am (So meet at 9am) for the drive down to Bemboka via Cooma & Brown Mountain.

Once through Bemboka we will head south through Candelo and then down to Merimbula where we will stop for lunch. 12PM - 1PM will give us enough time.

Pambula is just a short highway trip from Merimbula, and the fun twisty bits start soon after.

Our trip will continue to Bombala, then we'll head home to Canberra.

What to bring?

Fuel $$ (will probably need 1.25 - 1.5 tanks)

Lunch (if you're not buying in Merimbula)

CB Radio (will make the experience safer and more enjoyable with all the inane chatter that goes on).

Warnings:

*This is a 5 - 6 hour drive, so beware if you don't feel like driving for that long.

*If you are after Optimax specifically you better fill up in Canberra and take some octane booster with you. Only Shell Premium 96Ron exists once we get out of Canberra.

Shell Premium 96 is available in Cooma, Merimbula/Pambula.

*People wanting to use BP Ultimate will be fine. There is Ultimate in Cooma, Bega and Merimbula.

So who is coming along?

As an after-thought, the roads we are going on are majority highway.

The only twisty bits are down the Brown Mountain, and the majority of the road between Pambula and Bombala.

I was thinking of either one of two scenario's to make the drive a bit more fun.

Option1: (probably won't happen due to distance) Add an extra two hours to the cruise. When we get to Bega, head North and turn off to Bermagui, then south to Tathra and Merimbula. Then continue as originally planned. These roads are nice and twisty, and have recently been resealed.

BP Ultimate is available in Bermagui, Optimax as mentioned isn't available outside Canberra. Although Shell Premium 96 is available near Bermagui as well.

Option2: Bypass Bega by heading down south to Candelo (taking the turn off after the Brown Mounain and Bemboka), then south east to Merimbula for lunch. This means less km's but will take the same time as the original plan due to the fun bits. There is BP Ultimate available in Merimbula, as well as Shell Premium 96.

Option3: Leave it as it.

Thoughts, opinions, etc.. ?

It seems the general consensus is Option 2. We will be taking this route.

Sounds about right.

Don't worry about the Jerry Cans. Fill up in Canberra, then again in Bega and you will be fine to Cooma, possibly even Canberra again :spoton:

I'd love to go, but I'll be at the "Home of Golf" trying to ruin Tiger's game so an Aussie can win a major.... <_<

Enjoy the cruise!

Cro... I don't have an XR6T anymore. :k24t:

Can I still come along? <_<

Wow - 3 cruises in July. Sorry I'll have to miss this one as we have a race meeting at WSID. Have fun :spoton:
