Hi guys,

As a few of you would know I've been trying to work out the best path to take on modifying my XR6T while keeping an eye on the $$$ it takes to do it.

After a lot of research and help from various forum members (you know who you are) I've finished my mods.

1) APS CAI with K&N filter. All up this cost me $225.

2) I chose to get my auto modified and have a trans cooler fitted at Preston Automatics & Differentials before I increased the power, to me it was the sensible thing to do.

The auto shifts are a lot quicker and firmer now. At car park type of speeds the 1-2 change is a bit rough but anymore throttle than that and it smooths out and the rest of the shift are perfect. All up this cost me $900.

3) Fuel injectors. In the end I went for Bosch 0 280 155 968 injectors. I had ruled out Eugene's injectors because I wanted a bolt in replacement and didn't want to cut up the wiring looms or use some sort of adaptors. I also ruled out the Nizpro injectors because that works on a change over basis and I wanted to keep my injectors so I could return the car to stock if required. These cost me $726.

4) Upgrade the valve springs. When it comes to this there's only one option as far as I know and that's the Nizpro valve springs. I was lucky enough to find a set of these for sweet FA, and with the help of a mate we installed them ourselves, well he did most of the work actually. It's a job that unless you have the right tools don't even bother trying it, not to mention the specs so you can torque everything back up. I'll include a few photos of what it looks like under the rocker cover. All up this cost me $155.

5) Regap spark plugs. We did this at the same time as we were doing the valve springs. They were regapped to 0.89mm, Dave from Nizpro said they generally do it a bit smaller than that to 0.87mm but they still worked fine.

6) The Nizedit tuning. My stock power run showed 193rwkw's on 5psi, I think that's pretty good for an auto. Dave mentioned that it runs quite rich stock, mine was 0.72 lambda, and he said after it's tuned the economy would be better. They then installed my 968 injectors and began the whole tuning process, it's amazing to see what happens with just small changes in the tune.

After 10-12 adjustments of the tune it was complete running 255rwkw's on 12psi and now 0.85 lambda, which is perfect they tell me. And the midrange has a maximum increase of about 85rwkw's. All up this cost me $1995.

I've got 3 maps.

1) 98RON "everyday" map.

2) Economy map.

3) -2deg timing map if it ever starts to ping or if I can't buy 98RON fuel.

It's such a balancing act to get the tune spot on, and this is why guys you can't compromise on your tuner just to save a few dollars. Nizpro's not the cheapest but they are certainly one of the best, I would recommend them to anybody. Stick to the tuners that have the results on the board.

Power upgrades alone cost a total of $3026.

As mentioned the auto upgrade cost $900.

So all up the job was done for $3926.

So hows it drive? Awesome! It feels so much more alive than before, you can really feel the extra power and torque. It demand respect in the wet but it can be easily handled if you just drive around sedately, when you give it a bit that's when you lose traction, it's predictable though. In the dry traction isn't an issue, 100kmph has been and gone before you know what's happening. What will it run down the 1/4 mile? Wouldn't have a clue, but I'm going to find out!

Sorry for the long post. But like big Kev, I'm excited! :sleepystuff:

Here are my dyno graphs and a few photo's of the valve spring job. Enjoy!

Wll done ADAM and Nizpro.

I love the increase you've achieved in the mid-range. The car would feel so different now.

When are you going to the track for your 12 second pass?

Do you really think a 12 is possible?

It would be awesome to get into the 12's!

I'm hoping to have a crack in the next week providing the weathers fine.
