Workcover and all the other 'Nanny' oversighters can say what they want...Police are the ONLY ones that have to balance visibility against Officer Survival (such as being shot/stabbed/assaulted etc) things that normal workers are not subject to.

PS we do have exemptions from wearing all that crap....

:crybaby: Good luck Plonky, the f'n mining industry is rife with these safety w@nkers, they can get to "manager" status without knowing F'k all. Gone are the days of the safety people comming up from the shop floor. Now they're all career knobjockies with 0% knowledge of the job.

I hate them with a passion.

Totally agree with you.

I detest them as well....in fact Workcover and other similar parasites have built an industry out of legal decisions and the unenviable reputation of NSW being the most litigious State in the Western World (true...even more legal action per capiat than some states in the USA)

Example: When we were trained on Stop Sticks, the first thing they teach you is that when you stop, you open the trunk and you place your flouro vest on BEFORE you do anything such as put on gloves or release the Stop Sticks from the bracket.

There is very little time to deply the sticks (esp when a stolen car is travelling towards your location at 40 MPSec. So even though it takes considerable time to put on the 'Nanny' vest, you CANNOT deploy the Stop Sticks until the vest is on.

Now the stupid part.....once the flouro vest is on, you standard out like a white dog with purple balls, so if the driver of the stolen car is drug affected/angry/intent on killing a Policeman, he now has a reflective visible target to aim at.

Even the most drug upped moron who cannot see a traffic light can still see a yellow flouro vest running away down a grass verge or breakdown lane as the stolen car stills aims for you!!!

Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!!

The next thing these twats will want is for tactical Police to wear flouro vests when walking from the truck to the FUP because we might have to walk across a road!!!

Plonky,

I bet they remove the need for bullet proof vests from all police and issue them with fluro cotton wool vests as they would come up with some BS stat that more officers are hurt in falls than shot at. :spoton:

When a police officer is out of his vehicle issuing tickets etc working around a vehicle thoroughfare etc.... He must at all times be wearing a highly visible peice of apparel ( Flouro Vest etc.) .. Unfortunately they do not like wearing vests and some police officers that have apprehended workcover inspectors for speeding etc. have themselves copped a $500 fine for not following OH&S regulations and mandates... Nobody, even the police are exempt from parlimentary OH&S laws........ Hence the flouo hats.. To teach them to wear their vests when on or near the road...

Sorry Plonky..

But ya gotta wear ya vest mate.........

The reason Workcover is becoming so demanding with safety is because Workers Compensation Policies have skyrocketted and are putting small business under enormous pressure to pay premiums each year.... Businesses across Australia are demanding workers Compensation policies are reduced and the government is put in the position to try and do this... The only way they can do this is to reduce accidents... After an accident has happened, these workcover inspectors do an investigation, keeping in mind most of them have seen more dead bodies than your average policeman... The results of their investigations are then held under parlimentary scrutiny and amendement to try and prevent its from happening again..... If someone working on or around the road gets run over the first thing the person that drove the vehicle will say is "I didn't see them"..... Workcover inspectors hear this excuse weekly...... If you have a better idea to make sure workers on or around the road do not get hit I am sure workcover would like to hear it..... Their job is to make sure workers go home to there family after each shift.... and with over 100,000 claims every year for accidents that could have been avoided, some of the laws may seem dumb....

I ran my own business for 15 years in construction and paid monster premiums for my workers Comp...... No-one ever got hurt on my jobs other than minor cuts and bruises..... But still lots of people die in the building industry every year and the policies go up......

The police force holds a workers compensation also and there premiums rise every year along with everyone elses....

Times are a changing - Change with it or pay the penalty..

Simple...............

No, it is an urban myth. It was a widely spread rumour in our office and refuted ny the OH&S rep from the Police Association. If you think this is some kind of poetic justice that a police member was given a ticket, I'm not sorry to be the one that bursts your bubble. Its not a lawful process to issue it directly to the member. Next time at back at work I will even find the e-mail that was also sent dispeling it and explaining the correct procedure that Work Cover must follow to issue a notice.

And I know the VicPol has a massive work cover bill, largest in the state. Its police injuring themselves and prtoecting and assisting people like yourself that is so expensive. There no need to turn it into a pi$$ing contest. Who cares who has seen however many dead bodies? I've seen one that was worse than the other 20 combined.

Anyway, WTF has this got to do with a police car?

How long do you think it will be before you have to stop at all red lights and stop signs when in either pursuit of a perp or on your way to a distress call of some sort.

Dazza.
