20/03/05 09:59 AM20/03/05 09:59 AM #1 Don't use Caltex fuel often, so I had not noticed until today that a new fuel seems to be on offer - Vortex 98. Now, call me stupid, but as the normal Vortex is labelled as "premium unleaded", would that not be 98 RON already? Has the octane rating of Vortex actually been downgraded? Vortex is still expensive ($1.209 per litre today), so what do you pay for if it ain't 98 RON? Vortex 98 was about 3c per litre more expensive again And it cost $59 to fill the Focus today!

20/03/05 10:09 AM20/03/05 10:09 AM #3 Ani .... as a fervent user of motorcharge due to the unavailability of Caltex 98 ron, this is a godsend( save a hearty 4c/l). Having now run about 6 tanks of the Vortex 98 , all I can say is that it delivers slightly better economy and a lot less sooty black than the other stuff with no compromise in performance.. My fuel ratings after 45000ks as follows ( 25ks Phase 2 )1/ Mobil Synergy2/ Caltex Vortex 98 ron3/ Optisoot( very inconsistent between states )4/BP UIltimate

20/03/05 09:03 PM20/03/05 09:03 PM #8 Shame the 98 Vortex Gold outlets here in Canberra are not the Woolies coupon takers and enquiries reveal that the Woolies outlets will not get the 98 RON and will stay with the normal Vortex premium fuel. The normal Vortex is 96 RON not 95 by the way.Dingah
21/03/05 12:27 AM21/03/05 12:27 AM #9 I use the caltex fuel, put 70 dollars in it didn't even fill it up
21/03/05 12:53 AM21/03/05 12:53 AM #10 Standard Vortex is normally 95RON, but some have 96RON in metro areas (check the posted fuel ratings in your favourite servo). The only beef I have is that before Vortex98 came out, Vortex used to be 6c higher than standard unleaded. When Vortex98 arrived at the pumps, standard Vortex jumped to 7c higher with Vortex98 at 10c. No explaination as to why, the price rise just happened.
