They used to have two metal clip things either side of the front. If my memory serves me right it was quite hard to lift the seat up (or lever it up from the front anyway).Ok, now don't run outside and start ripping at the seat because I could be wrong Mal

Get your fingers under the front of the seat and lift each side in turn....can be a bit tight, so you could use something flat as a lever.
