just back from a test drive and the 300 RWkW Typhoon does feel absolutely awesome on the road..................have to agree, I feel that this Typhoon is the best new Ford that I've driven in a long, long time.

The other 10 Million dollar question Peter... How did the clutch handle the 300rwkws?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

So far so good.

The twin plate clutch does engage fairly high on the pedal though feels really nice and the pedal pressure is not too heavy for day to day driving...................I really don't know what caused all of the grief that Motor Mag experienced with the Typhoon clutch during their road test, I guess only time will tell.

From what I heard the car motor was given to test was an earlier mule from ford that didnt have the twin plate clutch fitted, they broke that and ford sent out a production spec F6.

I will have it a guess Peter that with one F6,  6 new squirts and APS edit you could or would have reached the same 300rwkw's?

I realise at this point your still using the same hardware that you use on the XR6T (piggyback) to get the results. But surely with APS edit and squirts you could do the same?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I very much doubt that 6 larger injectors and engine tuning alone (Unichip, edit, motec, etc, etc) would generate 300 RWkW's though that said I have not tried and I don't intend to, I care about engine life also.

I'd hate to see the exhaust back pressure at that power level with the stock exhaust and high back pressure causes elevated thermal loads on the engine................not a nice thing for long term piston, valve, or cyl head life and it can all turn to :spoton: very quickly at this high power level.

Thanks

Peter did you drive this vehicle prior to the fittment of the Kit? and if so what was your thought on the first drive?

Cheers

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yeah just a quick drive and it's not a rocket ship by any means in standard condition.................though very smooth and easy to drive once you get the clutch action worked out. :spoton:

So good so far, the clutch action is very smooth though it takes up very late, at about 3/4 pedal height. :spoton:

Looking at some of the cars you have driven, it probably is a rocket ship to us mere mortals.

The clutch problems in the Typhoon were caused by the driver flat shifting the transmission at WOT. FPV are fixing the issue and offering free in field fixes to any affectecte customers.

Will be interesting to see the final results of the packages, hopefully these motors have better valve springs from the factory (can you confirm this?).

I hear what you’re saying peter and know what you mean about turbo’s and back pressure.

Which brings me to my next question?

What was the back pressure on the standard exhaust system as FPV suggested it has increased flow? Maybe you can show us before and after your exhaust was fitted?

I see from BPT that they easily punched 239rwkw’s from a stock XR6T with no mods at all (not sure how lean it is up top) and I would expect some serious gains with simple things like CIA exhaust etc and looking at the graph and the F6 it would appear to me that just a set of injectors alone would make a huge difference to the F6?

It would not surprise me at all if FPV used the same exhaust as what is fitted to the XR6T as from the outside it looks very similar.

Either way Peter do you think the engine and the clutch will be strong enough as the biggest single cost is pulling the engine down strengthening it with rods, valve springs etc. and the Clutch/gearbox combination?

I would hope that 350rwkw’s should be easily achieved without any mods at all to the whole power train possibly making it worth the extra $$$’s to buy in the first place!

I can see my new Tornado being done very soon after delivery with the results you have posted.. I’m impressed!

Maybe you miss understood my last comment................the car is still quick though I guess it's all relevant to what one is used to driving.

A very nice car with adequate power and a good/strong torque curve and I'd have to say a very comfortable family car with towing capacity to boot. :kissmy:

Thanks
