Towing Capacity

Ford say the maximum towing capacity of the XR6T with the 5 spd manual is 1200kg. They claim clutch and input shafts as the weak link.

Has anybody any experiences or knowledge of how true this is?

Can you run up to the 1600kg that the bar is rated for, as long as you use a little bit of common sense, like no circle work with the boat on, and not using heavy throtles in tall gears when climbing hills?

Although dragging the boat past somebody off the lights does put a smile on your face.

Any comments appreciated.

I would be more concerned with the “what if I’m in an accident” factor. If you are towing more than what the rating is then it could be by-by insurance policy.

My T is auto, towing a 1200kg boat is a piece of cake, and still flogs Mr Average off the lights. :msm:

From my experience there appears to be no issue with towing the 1600kg in an auto and a manual driven sensibly would logically be likewise; however, you'd be best listen to Tab's advice - whatever the engineering pragmatics of your case you will completely negate your insurance by doing so and is it really worth the risk? Your decision.

Insurance, Good point!

I am currently trolling through the Trading Post looking at second hand 60 series Cuisers or the like.

Thanks

Clutch is the weak link. :spoton:

The torque of these engines can easily fry a clutch towing at the hands of an idiot. :glad:

.......Sensible driving shouldn't be a problem with towing. :glad:
