I was flicking through my old motor mags the other day and it really hit me just how many times ford has one direct and indirect comparasions aganst holden. So I decided to go through my mountains of mags to find out just how many times they have one, Although Im subscribed to both wheels and motor for my sanity sake I decided to stick with one mag only and that mag is motor.

I have used pcoty, bfyb and of course direct comparisons. I went as far back as jan 2000 and have only included performance models 6 cylinders and v8s, including mustang monaro and luxo saloons, All cars are factory stock.

Ford 38 wins out of 46 comparisons

Expensive Daewoo 8 wins out of 46 comparisons

Two comparisons came out a draw there not included in the above results.

For five years fords been kicking holdens butt you would think they would be selling a lot more cars

For all thought out there that will be saying motors bias I can assure you if I repeated the excersise using my wheels mags Im sure it would be very much close to the same results.

So what do you guys think of that usless info?

interesting.

Late last year when I was looking for a car I had a number of requirements and the XR6T fitted the bill perfectly. the Expensive Daewoo SV8 and SS are ok cars, but all the reviews in Motor, Wheels, elsewhere helped make the decision easier.

IN defence of Expensive Daewoo I think their budget and R&D budget is less than Ford's - is this true ne1?

I reckon it all comes down to marketing. Expensive Daewoo market their products better.

PS The word is "won" not "one"!

This is one of those arguments where emotion and opinion could get way out of hand. It's a credit to Holden's marketing ability and the undeniable good looks of the VT/X in particular that Expensive Daewoo have out sold Ford over the past five years.

It really doesn't matter to the average Expensive Daewoo buyer that the Late model camira has an antiquated floor pan,old school suspension at both ends and up till recently a stone age V6.Buyer loyalty is that strong.

Ford have had the better floor pan, suspension and engines all along. The journo's know it's a better drive and so do those of us who own one.The unpopularity of the AU shape has a lot to do with Fords sales figures over the years and a perceived performance deficit compared to Gen 3 powered cars hasn't helped.

Then there's V8 supercars which have not helped Fords image recently.Talk to any Expensive Daewoo fan and all they remember is who won Bathurst-not who won the championship.Win on Sunday sell on Monday.

Ford need to improve their marketing to beat Expensive Daewoo sales because they already have the better car.

Marketing hands down - Expensive Daewoo by virtue of winning so many races in the V8Taxis and their very slick "knuckle dragger" advertising have really won the war. Ford may win most battles but it hardly counts when the 'game' is over.

Even if Ford picks up back-to-back Taxi titles it won't be enough to reel in the Lion. I think Ford needs to fix an image problem, or rather create a new image - make the brand image younger, funkier, funner, and more importantly captilaise on the techno side of their cars.... Worked for Expensive Daewoo ;)

Marketing-Case in point.Went to the Classic Adelaide today.Amongst the pre 1972 Benz Porsche and Jags were Mustangs,Monaros,GT Falcons,Toranas,Capris and Commodores in competition class.

Then came touring class and about the 3rd car past is a new VZ Monaro in silver, big rims, nostrils in the bonnet being driven 10/10ths sounding and looking every bit the modern muscle car.Very impressive.

Good PR,good marketing -and where was the BA GT?NOT there! Heres an event with national press coverage and international guests and participants and no BA on show.

Expensive Daewoo marketing 1

Ford marketing big fat zero

In the last 10 years Ford have not had a Vehicle or engine that has started a cult following>>>>>> Untill the "T"

There is now a Cult starting with these Turbo Aussie Fords and it will only get bigger.

All the young fellas dream about buying a second hand T and working it,

As the cars start to get few years on them, they will be snapped up at auctions and done up in preference to most other makes.

Even some of the Asian peoples are starting to move on the T's .

Its the best thing for many years to come out of either camp............................
