Guest blueXRT Guests Posted 10/11/04 02:50 AM Share Posted 10/11/04 02:50 AM Very strange thing happened this morning, turned the key to start and heard a large click sound the car did not start then a white smoke started to come out from under the bonnet. Lifted the bonnet and it seemed the majority of the smoke was coming from the turbo side of the engine? It lasted for about 10 seconds then cleared up, it had a burning smell?? Started the car up as I was going to the dealer for some warranty work anyway and the car ran fine? Told the dealer and he of course had no exlpanation? If anyone has had similar experiences please share Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/13883-engine-smoke/ Share on other sites

Henry Member 180 Member For: 22y 4m 12d Gender: Not Telling Posted 10/11/04 09:57 PM Share Posted 10/11/04 09:57 PM Very very interestingI have had a similar issue on 2 occassions this year, but I get black smoke for about a minute!! Coming from around the turbo area too!!The first time it scared the sh*te out of me, I jumped out of the car and moved well away for fear it was on fire. Yep that's how much smoke we are talking here.Like you it smells like something is burning, and judging by the colour I reckon its probably oil, but it just makes no sense to me.The second time I popped the bonnet and couldnt really tell where it was coming from except from in the general area of the turbo. Both times it started after a bit of persistence, ran a bit rough for about 30 seconds then no more problems.Everything is still working on the car and I can't predict when this will happen. The dealer has no idea what the problem is, as usual. I expect that at the first service after the expiration of the warranty that I will get a phone call and an estimate for a new this and that and $2K thanx!!Anyone know if Ford will be offering the extended warranties on these contraptions? If so it wouldn't be oil because nothing would be hot enough yet to burn the oil. I'd be definately looking at the electrical side of things and making sure everything works properly. The clicking sound would most probably be relays so open up the fuse/relay boxes and a have a looky. ZAP No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 21y 4m 3d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 10/11/04 11:39 PM Share Posted 10/11/04 11:39 PM I had a similar thing.driven the car for about 10mins, parked in the driveway and black smoke started coming from the right side of the bonet. Opened the bonnet and smelt oil smoke. Could not see where it was coming from, but I suspect it was a oil hose. This was about 2 months ago and it has not happened since. The car does not drop any oil, I can only imagin that there is some sort of pressure relief valve for oil and coolant. You may have popped the coolant valve. I do not know for certain that this is the case, but usually if something leaks, it will continue to leak and not just do a once off.Its a bit of a worry that several people have reported this. I found $600 difference in price between dealers for an extra 3 yrs/60,000 km.
