HELP: Another weird noise!

Hey guys,

The Fairmont is going back to the dealer next week to have a couple of small issues looked at and I was wondering if someone has had this problem before?? At random day/night, aircon on/off there is a snap type noise from the dash. Yeasterday night I though a rock hit my windscreen, the noise was that loud. Sounds like a snap when you break a solid bit of plastic or something similar. Sometimes loud, other times not so loud! And its coming from with in the dash.

G'day XtRmn8, I know the sound you're talking about. I get that occasionally in the Fairlane, and maybe a couple of times in the XR. Don't think it's too big a deal (wouldn't have a clue what it is :wassat:, but if in doubt just get the dealer to check it out. I've left it as is, cause it hasn't cause my any problems. Hope you get things sorted at the dealer

The dealer is look at it on Tuesday. Car is booked in for a thud from the back and this dash noise! Will keep you posted on what they do.

I get a snap type noise when I first turn on the A/C, sounds like the plastic contracting.

We had this with our AU, its pretty common and l think an expansion/contraction problem. would be very suprised if the dealer didnt know of it and amazed if they could fix it, especially without leaving you with a squeaky dash.

Never had this one before,put key ignition..turn and start..the bloody fan comes on at mac speed for 2 seconds..then dies down to the setting it was set at ..#1

On the way home from work today, I have noticed that it does it when I go over slight bumps in the road. If it was a one off thing that happened once a week I would not worry but this happens every 2 min so its giving me the sh*%s now!

Hmmm, better get it checked out then mate. Sounds as if something might be loose. Good luck with it, and keep us posted.

Update!

Had the car in for some work today and got this fixed under warranty along with a couple of other small issues. They told me that they have seen this before and what they did to fix it is move and realign the dash and put new insulation tape around it!

I didnt really ask to many questions but it seems to have fixed it, see how it goes over the next few days!

But the scrathed my one week old tint in the process (they are paying for repair)
