Guest jteale Guests Posted 21/09/04 07:19 AM Posted 21/09/04 07:19 AM I have a question surrounding the Unichip (and APS Ph1/2) regarding the overboost issues. I am considering mods to fix my issues (and I want more power) and the revised Ph2 is looking right down my alley ... so ...Adrian from Haltech has quoted in another thread:The overboost dramas are generally caused by the map sensor in the intake system (behind the drivers side headlight) which is often referred to as the boost sensor. If the ECU does not get exactly the voltage it expects it will shut down cylinders. This can be caused by stock cars that do not control boost properly (the stock boost control is poor), or modified cars that change boost and either do not alter this signal, or alter it to the wrong level. In the Haltech, the clamp voltage is settable in the software. Interestingly, we have found some cars are far more tolerant of this voltage being slightly wrong than others in our testing. It is likely that the Haltech unit would fix this problems as it clamps this voltage. Can the Unichip perform similar functions to the Haltech (specifically clamping the map sensor voltages) to help solve this issue, as I have heard (from other APS modded cars) that the overboost issue still occurs after the addition of the Unichip? If anyway can share their experience of this issue post APS addons would be extremely helpful. Thanks, Jason.

Thanks, Jason.Jason the Unichip performs this function and much more.................I guess the real question should be can the haltech perform similar functions to the Unichip. Clamping the map sensors voltages is the correct approach...............this way the stock computer does not get upset and the Unichip can take full control of mapping the boost curve to the desired level across the entire RPM range. PeterAPS So Peter, I didnt completely understand your answer. .........Does that mean it fixes the problem? (pardon my ignorance) Mark.

(pardon my ignorance) Mark.Yes it completely rectifies the over boost problem........if you clamp the 2 map sensor voltages correctly.................no more over boost engine shut down. PeterAPS

PeterAPS Great Peter, look forward to getting my overboosting problem (9-10psi) fixed next week when I get my Unichip installed.
