Otherwise pre-ignition aka knocking will occur... and engine life expectancy will go the wrong way.Generally speaking the higher the octane, the higher chance of getting a 'cleaner' burn. Thus the chance the engine will produce its peak power output at every given rpm.Having done quite a number of k's in my T, I can honestly say on the open road, the difference between ulimate and vortex (plus optimax/etc) is didly squat. U'll drink around 10litres. Power difference... well regardless which jungle juice u get, u will overtake cars like a low flying jet. Where its going to make the biggest potential difference in the T (and most cars), is that 0 -> takeoff. I cant tell the difference.Dazza. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12746-bp-ultimate-vs-caltex-vortex/page/3/#findComment-163505 Share on other sites
ubyte Member 108 Member For: 21y 8m 5d Posted 09/09/04 03:34 PM Share Posted 09/09/04 03:34 PM They are the same in RON rating. However, optimax is supposidly a 'denser' fuel then ulimate. ie the theory being that you will use less of it to deliver the same amount of power. However with the Shell Optimax you sure feel the difference, car handles better. My T loves the stuff. Last load of fuel from Vermont in Vic seems to me to be the best batch of fuel I've used. My T purrrrrrs, squeeze the right foot, turbo kicks in and she growls Gotta keep her sweet. It might be all in the mind though!I also like BP Ultimate as well Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12746-bp-ultimate-vs-caltex-vortex/page/3/#findComment-163921 Share on other sites

It mustnt slop around in the tank as much as the other stuff, therefore throwing the cars back end out around corners.Dazza.
