28/08/04 07:23 AM28/08/04 07:23 AM #1 Paid $400 for Northfield carsound to install a headunit, two amps, my sub and a pair of speakers. Nothing major, they didn't need to fukc with anything just neede dpower and it all plugged in.Instead I get there and the first thing they say is, you ICC is dead. Don't know what has been done to it but it doesn't work. Great! Fukcing great. So they say bring it back monday and we'll have a look at it.Driving it home I open the window for obvious reasons and number two strikes. The drivers window only goes half way down, its getting stuck on something. Bloody hell! Could it get any worse?!I smelled something burning, and its getting worse and fast! I reached for the fire extinguisher and unclipped it ready to douse something.I started snigging around and found the smell to be coming form the two centre airvents, so strong infact it made me choke. No smoke just smell. bad smell. And right between the two vents the plastic is warm, not hot just warm. I am in fear of my car catchign fire so I have unplugged the battery just in case.So for $400 I have had my car completly arse fukced. I am very stressed and upset at the moment. And I am going to have to take time out of my schedule to get it fixed. So monday morning she is going back and I won't be suprised to see if it has to go to Ford for complete diagnostics. Can anybody, anybody?! Shed some light on to my delema!!?! Please?!?!
28/08/04 07:54 AM28/08/04 07:54 AM #2 Isnt there some story about security if you start fo *beep* with the unit it shuts down so its useless,to stop skum from stealing, fcuken skum Thak to goldie ,hes in the know...vik
28/08/04 08:35 AM28/08/04 08:35 AM #3 Make sure you have Ford give you the diagnosis in writing - ie what they did wrong - so you can chase the cowboys who fuxed it up with a pay up or else.
28/08/04 09:16 AM28/08/04 09:16 AM #4 Check all the plugs around the steering column and kick panel area..... and never replace a 10amp fuse with something higher! It is blowing fuses for a reason. Find out why.Toasted ICC? Hmmmm, about 3K last time I checked......
28/08/04 09:17 AM28/08/04 09:17 AM #5 I would sujest that they have either wired the new head unit up wrong or maybe mounted the head unit to icc with screws that are to long and these are shorting out.Ian
28/08/04 09:23 AM28/08/04 09:23 AM #6 Makes me wonder if I should install the pioneer dvd player that I bought for my car now but then again I cant be bothered leaving a deck like that for $2000 sitting around doin nothing and being a dust collector and hope all goes well for u and that the problems arnt to bad!
28/08/04 09:23 AM28/08/04 09:23 AM #7 I would sujest that they have either wired the new head unit up wrong or maybe mounted the head unit to icc with screws that are to long and these are shorting out.Ian Yeah I remember hearing about people who were mounting their hands free kit to the left of the ICC and under that trim and doing just that. Adios ICC.
28/08/04 11:36 AM28/08/04 11:36 AM #8 Hmmm Brisbane Carsound did the same with 10 Mobile Phone kits one day for a fleet company. They fitted them all up at the same time then went to start them and they wouldnt go. 10 x 3000 each for new ICC = $30,000 (I spose they had insurance). Neways I would have f*cked them up before I took the car back! Good luck getting them to fix it.
28/08/04 12:45 PM28/08/04 12:45 PM #9 I thought it was impossible to change headunits in BA's as it was an integrated part of the cars security system. Either way I dont envi you at the moment rednut.Dazza.
28/08/04 01:14 PM28/08/04 01:14 PM #10 No all you can do is put the second head unit in and leave the original wired up the way it was. Its kinda a waste of time if you ask me as it just ruins the whole car having 2 head units, unless you get something with a pop out screen that kinda offers a little more. Ford should make Premium sound an option on the ute and stop pissing us Ute drivers around. Neways I would be down at Northfield and ripping it up them on Monday morning.
