I have been to traffic meetings where the Council Road Safety officer has been frothing about how good these speed check reminder things are.

I reminded him that the only thing they are good for is having the hoodlums see what speed they can register when they race past it.

I think they are stupid....just another thing for the motorist to look at instead of their mobile phone, CD player, car mounted DVD, the kids in the back, plethora of useless RTA signs, which lane they are in, stupid pedestrians that run out in front of cars, idiots on pushbikes bunny hopping from kerb to kerb as well as those inconvenient Stop signs and traffic lights......and other cars travelling in both directions !!

Drove in NSW last week. Could not believe how much signage there was, and how completely :censored:ing useless most of it was!

In Vic a little while ago they tried a concept where a marked TMU vehicle was stopped in the side of the road with the the laser out and targetted vehicles as they went past. The speed the passing motorist was travelling at was displayed on a large sign mounted on the boot, or alternatively on the Multi-functional display on the back of the light bar. Haven't done this for a while though.

They use those speed check signs here where I am in Northen NJ. They are always in 25mph zones next to a school or small (but busy) side streets where there would be kids playing. Rather stupid place to put these as I'm sure they must know they are just inviting the idiots to play the game of who can trap faster.
