I think it's a tack-on bit to the underdash fusebox. Bit of untidy wiring that is done by dealers using a factory-supplied kit.

However, I'll add it to every car I have in future....big safety bonus, especially with dark colours

As jteale said, the lights automatically turn on when the ambient light level is low (sensed through a dash mounted sensor) and off when the light level is high. The calibration of the light level required to switch the headlights (and also the dash lights as per normal) is very good IMO.

The lights stay on for 20 seconds after a door is opened. The idea behind this feature was so that you could see your house door lock at night in a dark garage etc.

I ordered the Lux Pack and I love this feature. I always leave the lights switch on AUTO. Never need to touch your lights switch again.

There is obviously some confusion between the lights-on option and the auto headlight option.

The lights-on option keeps the headlights on (without the dash lights) when driving during the day...it's a safety feature.

Auto headlights is a different thing altogether as explained by Ford_power. I guess it's handy for people who have difficulty realising that it's getting dark and would like the car to decide when to turn the lights on to save them having to make that difficult decision.

Im a tad confused too!

It appears the Lux Pack have some sort of "auto lights" feature... you learn something new every day!

I assumed the original poster was enquiring about "Lights On" feature...... which can be easily fitted afterwards.

Just turn the buggers on by hand! Its not that hard is it?

the feature where the lights stay on for about 20 seconds once the car is off can be really helpful in dark areas. and it looks cool too :D

is it possible to attach a switch for the right hand side low beam and rear tail light to be left on after parking? just like the german cars?

I was just kicking my self when I did not order the auto on feature and I dont like turning them on and off and plus the colour screen dulls aswell, and a few guys have them hear aswell so can I add the auto on feature, is it easy or do I have to keep turning them on and off during the day

thanks for your help

It sounds like you want to have your headlights on during the day. This would be the 'Lights On Feature'. I have it fitted to my HgAg T for visibility, and I had it on my previous XR8. The lights are simply always on when the car is running - Headllights and Tail Lights - but you still need to turn the switch at night to get the dash lit up.

Here is the info from the Ford website:

Headlights and taillights automatically turn on when your Falcon is started and turn off when your Falcon is shut down

- Integrated with the electronic system

- Helps to improve visibility of your Falcon to other traffic

- Not functional when normal headlights and taillights are activated

RRP Fitted*:  $140.00

Part Number:  BA 13D005 AB

As it is a dealer fit option you should be able to have it installed at any time.

It sounds like the Lux Pack comes with a different, light sensing, auto lights on feature. I wasn't aware of this until I read the posts from the guys that have lux pack cars - interesting.
