New Roads

Anyone who lives in the Franskton area in Victoria will know that the amount of road works going on at the moment is just plain stupid. VicRoads and the council must need to spend their budget before the end of the financial year or something.

Anyway, this dribble has a point. I washed the turbs today and the entire back of the car is covered in small black tar spots that will not come off. The same spots appear down both sides of the car below the plastic trim on the doors. These spots are also all over the rims (but come off the rims with careful and gentle scratching).

Not happy! :blush::spoton:

Normal bug and tar remover does not get it off. My old man told me there was a thing in the Herald Sun cars guide a couple of weeks ago about the compound in ashphault (sp??) being changed and now people can't get it off their cars.

The sh*t is everywhere and no amount of tar remover and scrubbing gets rid of it. The old man said eucolyptus oil will, but I'm not very keen on dabbing euco oil all over the car. I am looking at an 8 hour job and euco oil (100% proper stuff, not the supermarket rubbish) is VERY expensive.

Has anyone else had this? It's very noticable within 2-3 metres of the car.

I letter to the manager of the local VicRoads office is in order. Shall be typed when I get to work tonight.

:cussing: :reallymad:

Luckily it doesn't show up at all on my Silhouette ... it stays just as clean as ever :blush:

Eucalyptus oil will remove it :spoton:

Which road excalty is it Ant, might have to keep off them

Meguires puts out a product called 'Quick Detailer with clay bar'. You spray the quick detailer on an affected area then rub the clay bar over the wet area, lifts all contaminants off. Cheaper than eucalyptus oil too.

Or you could try 'Prepsol' that should lift the tar off. But you will have to polish the car after as it takes all polish off too. At least you'll have clean paintwork.

being inn the road work industy (damned if you do and damned if you don't ) being the end of the finacial year they will spend there money on work

but it is like night work ..people complain they cant sleep ...do it dueing the day and to much traffic and traffic jam and people complain about being in road work traffic and dont do the work and people complain there are sh*t roads and do the work and people cars get little black dots on them

I dont work with main roads but it is hard enough doing the work and putting up with people comlaining

my 2 cents

just a question when do we do the work if you had to do it

and dont forget there are a lot of people in this wonderful country and they work different time of the day ECT

Can't you just keep cars off the new sections until the damn stuff is dry enough not to splatter all over the cars.

I came up to some roadworks where cars were being waved on over new bitumen. Took a detour instead of driving over it. Obsessional?....maybe. But it saved me more time and hassle than the detour caused.

the thing is the speed limit at road works is 40 km you dont see many people doing that speed ...I dont think that you would get tar or rock flying up unless you was at a highers speed

saying that it may be your fellow drive comming the other way at a fast sped that causes the trouble

remember low speed in dirt on rocks or in any condition will not hhurt you car

My problem is not when or where the road works are being completed. In fact, hats off to the government for getting us some A1 roads around here :spoton: (sic!)

The problem is if they have introduced some kind of new ingredient into new roads that is such a :censored: sh*t to get off, they could have alerted us through the news media or similar?

I think the main offender has been Cranbourne Road through Langwarrin, I first noticed a few of these spots last time I washed the car, which was about when that began. Now with Nepean Highway underway as well...

Maybe we should all ride our pushbikes until July 1st? :censored:
