Automatic Windows

Im trying to find out about the automatic window's ( you know 1 press and it goes down , then another press & then it goes up....) Did ford put these in the luxury models & the not the XR's ?

If so how much to get one installed or is there a DIY solution other than not being lazy ?

What are car companies thinking when they don't include this option in all models?

I have a feeling that auto up is not allowed on cars maybe due to an ADR and so Aussie built ones dont get them.

I know that other manufacturers provide them. My old Toyota Surf that I sold last month had them on the drivers only.

No, not all XR's have them. XR6 NA without the rear power window option will not get auto driver down.

The VY Late model camira has auto down for both the driver and front passenger, I wish my XR6 had front passenger auto down!

You might want to pm one of the forum members in Brisbane - Cam. He has made up neat little modules that can add auto up to your windows.

Do a search on "automatic power windows" and you'll see some of Cam's posts right at the top of the list.

Cars are starting to appear with auto up windows now, the old man just bought a Honda Accord Euro, that has them, a few of the new Subarus also fitted with it.

THe window will stop as soon as it detects the slightest resistence so it can not injure a kid or dog with its head in the way. Would be a ripper option to have I think!

Yes, a lot of cars have them. My old 1982 Honda Accord (fully imported) had them!

I think they dont do a auto windows up function as they are prone to failure (or rather stopping before the window is fully up)

They work by using an inductor to hold a solenoid that is controlled by the current that is flowing through the inductor. Once the window is up, the current required is large, and as a result it drops the solenoid. (ie, it releases the "up" button)

The problem here is that the reistance to put the window up changes depending on a number of factors. For instance, when it is cold, the windows tend to move slower as everything is tighter. Another one is that as a vehicle ages, the motors become tighter due to a reduction in lubrication .

The result of this is that the window will stop midway as opposed to only when its up as the physical "resistance" is higher than it would be when the car was new.

Car manufactures could tune the circuit so that the window only stops only when faced with MAJOR resistance, (ie, lack of lubrication is not so significant) but then there are safety concerns that are breached.

The utes don't have the auto down feature. I replaced my original ute switch with a turbo sedan switch, and now presto, it has auto down. If you want to go this way, you just have to swap the top facia off the ute switch to the sedan switch base, and throw out the rear door contacts.

Hi guys .I have only ever seen power window lifter modules in my time.Normally they can be in sets for 2 windows and 2x2 for 4 windows.However to make them go down I have not seen in real life but I do know how to.With the factory Xr6 remote control you can have the windows set to wind up when locked ad wind down when unlocked.To have this happen at your own command will require an aftermarket remote controller with 2 channells

it is quite easy to wire in an after market window raiser module, even though I know that's not what you guys are talking about specifically. The auto winder module can be set up to wind up all windows when the doors are locked. It could also be wired in to do the oppsite-open them when unlocked, but would be a pain when raining. Mine is set up so if the doors are locked & the key is not in the ignition position the windows lock, so it is auto window up by remote or key lock.
