Cai For N/A Xr6 Ute
I have a blue power one and I had the F6 setup and I reckon the blue power one is better. I might be selling the BPR one soon so keep an eye out

!Help! Lost All Oil Pressure
After I bit of a chat today with brad from atomic I was going down the path of pull the OCV out and see if I could borrow one from MattyB's car seeing how it is out of action. This would only be possible if they were the same type seeing how ford changed them somewhere between the BA and BF. Anywhy pulled out my intake one and this is what I found...you may have to click on the image to see it properly On the last set of valves you can see some crap and a bit of red thread... I have forward this on to brad to see what he makes of it. I pulled out the exhaust OCV for good measure and cleaned them both with some CO contact cleaner. Put them back in and bobs your uncle the problem is gone. Apparently some models have the filter you can see in the picture and some don't. I'm lucky in this case because this may have led to a stuck phaser if there was no filter which would be a pain to fix and would most likely be out of my skill range. ******************************************************************************* ---FYI--- Extract from the Ford Workshop Service Guide The camshaft timing is controlled by directing oil circuits. under pressure (from the engine oil pump) into one of two ports in the Phaser, one port will retard the cam timing (‘Retard port’) and the other will advance the timing (‘Advance port’). An Oil Control Valve (OCV), one for each camshaft is used to control the flow of oil into the retard and advance ports of both cams. The OCV is controlled by the PCM. ******************************************************************************* So now on monday I will take it into town and get the guys at the diesel place to put their scanner on it again and hopefully there are no more DTCs stored. On another note I cannot say enough about both Brad and Dave for their help. Brad for his customer service and willingness to help you sort any issues out, and as for Dave I haven't even gone up to see him for tuning yet but he has constantly been willing to help with advice. Two thumbs up for both of them. Also thanks to the guys who have left comments and thrown advice my way, its been very much appreciated, and hopefully the problem is now cleared. Cheers Cameron

The head is the same with the only thing to be changed I believe are the valve springs. Are you thinking that the OCV isn't getting supplied with oil?

On a positive note my plenum should be here next week.... I can't wait to pi$$ off the crossover and the nizpro piping, every time I pull it off and put it back on it sh!ts me so much

!Help! Lost All Oil Pressure
Well the dramas continue.... Long story short. The missing problem is still there and it seems it is a inlet cam actuator (OCV) The reason I could drive it is I had left a cam angle sensor connector of which as a result disables VCT I think and from what I'm told it will fully advance the timing. So the present fault with every thing connected is P1381 CAMSHAFT POSITION TIMING OVER ADVANCED (I6 INTAKE CAM, V8 BANK 1). The service manual says that the mechanical cause would be the cam shaft is installed incorrectly however I'm thinking that's not the case seeing as it runs with out VCT. With the guide of the service manual I've completely checked the OCV and Cam Angle circuitry for continuity back to their circuit origins with no faults found. After talking to Dave (who gave up 1/2 an hour of his Friday night - thanks mate!) he thinks that it could be a failed or stuck OCV as he has come across something similar. So my next step is to get in contact with Brad from atomic and see if can send me up an OCV unit. All of this is a very good learning exercise... however its starting to wear me down... I do control circuit fault finding every day as a lecky but fault findings these things without the right tools or people (ie a tuner nearby) is very time consuming and frustrating , thumbs up to you guys that do this for a living

Shes a Goer!!!! Whoohooo How? I don't exactly know. Before I started her again I went through and checked the rear sensors on the cams and pulled out the exhaust one and have it a bit of a clean. I also grabbed mattyb's six coils and o2 sensor. Well I put the six fresh coils in and the problem has disappeared... for curiosity sake I put the old coils back in and now its still running fine... So there's a couple of conclusions to this... 1--- The problems was the little bit of crap I cleaned off the end of the end of the sensor or when I pulled it out and saw if it was still magnetic (variable reluctance sensors) and also if it would output a mV signal when the bolt the secured it was placed and removed from the magnetic face, which it did. So I don't know if this woke the sensor up at all The second conclusion, I might have disturbed something and masked a problem that might return. Or I just thought of a Third (I know I said 2) Starting the car and re-energising sensors have helped some how. Or starting the car has released a sticky VCT solenoid (electrically operated/controls oil pressure to the phasors....I believe) Im still going to stick a scanner on the ute to be sure .... and isn't that a battle... I went to a local trusted mech and he had one but was too busy and very short of people... and then went to the local ford and left thinking I shouldn't have wasted my time (stupid w@nker$) but I had a thought.... There is a diesel pump and injector place in town... believe it or not they are the only people with a dyno....yes its for tuning diesels mainly for 4x4s!!! But thought what the hell and went in and asked if they had an OBD II scanner and they did! And were only too happy to help and plug it in when I could bring it around. These guys are also flat out and short of people but were just a good bunch of blokes. So yeah, very happy that shes on the road again and I will hopefully take her for a long strap tomorrow and start the run in process... so far she runs and accelerates great without being on boost (under 3 psi)

cheers ratter, I just got off the phone from both dave (blueboost) and brad from atomic and they seem to think it might be something to do with the VCT. Brad seems pretty confident it isn't the solenoids or the phasors, rather the sensors at the back of the head. All so the O2 sensor is still a maybe. But I really need to a scanner on it.

no fault codes logged.... I really hope its the coils

!Help! Lost All Oil Pressure
Ok so I've changed the plugs back to the ford items sent with the engine (I'm presuming they were the ones atomic test run the engine on). With ford plugs there was no change. So I'm planning on borrow battyb's coils this arv and I'm hoping this problem will clear up. I've also taken out the O2 sensor not expecting to see much but had nothing to lose. I've checked over pretty much all of the sensor connections... Next I'm gonna check if the computer is throwing up any fault codes by borrowing a mate's (gravelrash's) xcal2 in a hope that it will give me some directions.

Knocking From Engine
if I can get an issue fixed on my ute I will probably head to gladstone, if I can't sort it out then count me in

!Help! Lost All Oil Pressure
Yeah greg its heaps long mate... at least a dozen blocks anyway lol Thanks baf6 im thinking that might be the go, I'm gonna top up the reservoir to see if that helps too. then its to the drawing board with my other issue.

So my results from checking the resistance of the coils were.... All the primary windings were .7 ohm, and from the secondary connection to the the primary pins measured. 1- 5.97 k ohm 2- 5.93 k ohm 3- 6.05 k ohm 4- 6.05 k ohm 5- 5.93 k ohm 6- 6.00 k ohm There's a little variation in the readings but am not sure if the differences are worth looking further into.

!Help! Lost All Oil Pressure
SHES ALIVE!!! Im still waiting on my plenum so I through the nizpro cold side piping and the cross-over back on so I can get it going at least. I took it for a little drive down the street and have come across two problems. -- When I am parked and hold the rpm at about 2000rpm it coughs and cuts out a bit like a miss, this is also seen in driving, accelerate from idle and sometimes it misses and jerks the car. Do you guys reckon this could be fuel or spark related. Its got all new spark plugs and I don't know if the coils have ever been changed. When the injectors were out I individually bagged them straight away and cleaned dipped them in a bit of fuel before putting them back in (they are nizpro units). all the vacuum lines appear to be all sweet. I'm leaning towards spark but tell me what you think. I'll go out and meter the coil primary while waiting for replys. -- The second is the power steering stutters. I took the cap off and moved the steering side to side in an attempt to bleed out any air and it got a bit better. It seems to be more affected at low rpm. Also at idle the fluid is sitting on the low line. Tell me what you think As for the engine, shes all sweet so far. Apart from the missing you wouldn't even know it was a built engine. When I went for a test drive down my private road, I had no bonnet on and I didn't get the engine on boost but I managed to get to 0psi by reading my gauge, and the spool noise with the new air box is WICKED. its probably alot louder without the bonnet on but it still sounded great. Anyway im off you meter these coils so tell us what you think about my issues. Cheers Cam

thanks senna, no she is just the garret replacement. Garret were no longer allowed to sell the ford housing so they made their own with a 10% difference to get around patents. This housing has a higher nickle content so its got a better chance of holding up to the heat stresses that cause the cracking from what I'm led to believe. It also has a bigger waste-gate port and flapper. A new 8lb actuator and arm are coming with it too. When I ordered the housing rotomaster were in the process of testing a prototype turbine housing that I think was reinforced somehow to over come the cracking issue....I should give them a call in the new year and find out some more info, when I called last I was in a bit of a rush. I would have liked to go the external gate, but time isn't on my side. That along with the cash involved and the lack of people in the area that could make a new / change my dump had limited my choices.

Well today I got most things tidied up and am now limited to waiting for the plenum, piping and turbine housing to turn up

Re-Torquing Manifold And Turbo Bolts
I just bought all new exhaust manifold head bolts and they came with a washer that was like a belvel washer with three wings that would serve as a lock to prevent spinning. I don't know if this is an attempt by ford to fix the problem but we'll see how they go. Also all the nuts for the tubo studs and dump studs are a type of lock nut. They do not have nylon in them but the top surface have three flattened notches that provide a lock on to the thread. Again we will see how they go

!Help! Lost All Oil Pressure
Well I got a fair bit done today. Got the two manifolds on, sensors, wiring loom, injectors/fuel rail, oil supply line and water supply lines, heater hoses, flywheel and clutch, and threw her back into the engine bay bolted to the gear box and bolted down on the mounts. So tomorrow I will just have to plug the rest of the wiring loom into the gearbox, bolt the a/c and alternator on and that will nearly be it until my plenum from rapid gets here and a new turbine housing and 8psi actuator from rotomaster gets here too...

Knocking From Engine
hey matty, Sorry to hear about your dramas dude... nasty sound too. A thought for parts... maybe you could give brad at atomic a call and see if he has some good condition second hand F6 pistons and rods he could sell you New ones would be the go though, for piece of mind. Keep us in the loop. Cam

!Help! Lost All Oil Pressure
I'll be happy with 400rwkw. My turbo will nearly be out of puff at that point I would say. but I think the engine will be comfortable at that level.

!Help! Lost All Oil Pressure
Ah that's ok mate. Yeah he did mention something about the new timing case... I can't wait...

!Help! Lost All Oil Pressure
Thanks mate. Really? that's awesome.... didn't take any pics did you.... I'm diein to see it. Brad's sending me a swag of photos but hasn't got around to it yet... Yeah I wanted it done properly...quiet Christmas for me though lol
