Fg Xr6T Mk2 Bad Fuel Consumption
Bigg_kayz replied to luke.a's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
that's pretty much their economy mate , anywhere from 11.8 all the way to 19.... mines sitting at 22 .4 ... fun times :S depends how you drive , do u get in the accelerator hard at take off? these cars are a bit heavier than jap cars, if youre cruising a lot they wont guzzle but continually getting them going from a standstill is where its gonna use most.... that and of course on boost. try taking off a bit lighter on take off, see how you go -
And since its a $ inch dump rather than factory can/ should I still buy the ford genuine factory fit gasket ? will that work something like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GENUINE-FORD-BA-BF-FG-MK2-FALCON-SX-SY-TERRITORY-TURBO-DUMP-GASKET-F6-F6X-XR-/121120919765 Those heat shield bolts are tight as anything, should I just WD40 ?

hey guys , was at turbotrana's earlier today trying to sus out a few things , I came to realise that the noise ive been assuming was an exhaust leak but could never find is definitely the dump pipe gasket. Ive been looking everywhere to find a thread of "how to" replace the gasket the easiest way possible. All I have been able to find that's remotely close is threads on "how to remove turbo for flapper upgrade." If I can avoid pulling off the whole turbo and all the oil return lines and coolant lines I would much prefer that , I dont have a hoist but I do have a quality jack. If anyone can put me in the right directions it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Fg Xr6T Mk2 Bad Fuel Consumption
Bigg_kayz replied to luke.a's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
Ive had a few suggestions in my thread when I had this issue. firstly I recommend resetting your trip computer . Secondly, get on the freeway, get to 100km/h and set your cruise, then flick your trip meter to instant fuel consumption meter, check the read out thirdly if youre doing short burst trips and continually letting your car cool right off then starting it cold youll see it uses more on cold start . Start the car cold and show your instant fuel usage on the trip , allow to idle till the engine hits operating temperature , then youll see it should drop from 4-5l/hr to about 2.2l/hr.... turbo fords dont like stop starts driving and it will be way less economical for city driving ot routes with lots of traffic lights etc. (please note only on idle will your instant fuel usage read in litres per hour - once youre driving it will record in litres per 100kms) hope this helps Ive been told aftermarket thermostats that crap themselves and 02 sensors can be a culprit also. -

seems weird I take it on for a retune, they suggest new injector fitment then scale it to the old injectors? not impossible, but weird :s pinched o ring? where abouts you reckon? -

Yeah mate, always run bp98 even when on standard tune ... no more stalling it had 2 hiccups when I got it back , I think it was the last of the sh*t clearing itself out. where you located mate? could it be a bad 02 sensor throwing the fuel off? I never considered the thermostat, how could that be linked, just curious? -

Bigg_kayz replied to Bigg_kayz's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
Dont really want to have to change tuner, and as I said hes ruptable .. ive used this place in the past and not had drama... I just dont wanna pay again for a job that's already been done. Theres no more stalling issues anymore, when they swapped the injectors they found orange rubber everywhere .. turned out someone had put in some kind of additive or e85 and it competely ate the fuel filter and sent rubber bits through the whole system, so injectors were changed and upgraded from teh siemens deka 80lb to ID1000s and the fuel lines were all flushed and the filter replaced -

Its still using too much and the average is creeping back up (currently 24.8l/100km) I spoke to the tune shop , theyve said it could be aftermarket fuel rail leaking , checked it no leak , no leaks anywhere but stink like fuel when idling (like its running rich) but ive been told its not . tuner suggested getting it to 100km, setting cruise control then flicking to instant fuel consumption on the trip. would this be an accurate way of checking before I take it back ? By the sounds of it theyre going to charge me to look it over saying it cant be the tune . my issue is the previous tune was running more psi and yet chewed half as much as it does since the new tune. they took out my seimens 80lb deka and put in the id1000s, cleaned my fuel system and put new inline filter and replaced a slightly crushed steel elbow. so im thinking if its the fuel rail itll be when it was reinstalled after the new injectors. I just dont get how it can consume more now running less power with "better injectors" im starting to despise the car :S Not feeling like its the pride and joy I once thought. I dont even wanna put anymore money into it, getting ready to possibly sell it -

Im pretty happy now around town stop/ start with some squirting here and there and im running an average between 19.8 and 20.2l/100km ... not the lowest but a lot better thank thinking im running 33-34l/100km Thanks for all your help guys once again , this forum is always the biggest help. so quick and prompt with reliable sources. -

Bigg_kayz replied to Bigg_kayz's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
I always start the car and let it idle to warm , then drive (usual operating temp in my other ute was about middway) but with this car it just above the first line (like a quarter or a little more) that's the general temp I see other at with similar mods as well. my trips vary but I would rarely drive under 25 kms per trip -

alright so I figured it out ... its my f**k up . Went for a cruise then these are the results cold start idle 5.4l/hr (the average climbed from 33.7 to 34) warm idle 2.4l/hr (started driving and the average continually dropped ) 60km/h 3rd 17-19l per 100km 60km/h 4th 15-16l per 100km 100km/h 5th 16.2l per 100km (after the drive and getting home the average is now at 29. There was an aspect I didnt stop to consider.. its still running the same tank of fuel from when I had it tuned and ive only driven it a few times, and I remember when I got it back from the tune it was up in the high 60kms , possibly 70kms I cant remember exactly. But basically im pretty sure the car hasnt sorted itself out yet as I havent driven enough since the tune . It should continue to drop as its "averaging" and obviously on the dyno its get smashed over and over. pretty much explains it hey? do the given results seem right? -

alright then, cheers bizket... ill reset , I will use the phone data logger and if I sit around 450 ill be happy with that and accept it - because reality is I do give it a squirt here and there (only nanna atm figuring out consumption with new tune and injectors) -

Maybe I should just pull the battery off for 30mins , let it reset ... fill it to full with 98 and see how I go with a full tank ? should sort out any callibration issues? my average speed is only 12kms :s -

im not ginna name names , maybe im just jumping the gun as I say ive only done about 100kms or less , maybe the computer hasnt sorted it out from the last tune it had, was just absolute shiyte? this has all been city driving. what would people generally get if they flogged it with a 500hp tune? just curious -

why would it be tuned that badly? I had it idling whilst I tuned the stereo I fitted the other day and 15-20 minutes just idling it took 8km range from the trip range -
So I've had this second ute for a while now, got it retuned 3-4 weeks ago , only driven it 4 times since (10-15 km's each time) BY JEEBUS it GUZZLES! .... my average is reading 33.7l/100km, but that's not what I'm judging by, I'm judging by the fact that I drive to a mates house and its like I've driven Bathurst lol. I haven't been stabbing it , I have been seeing what the best "economy" I can get out of it. Obviously I know a tuned 6 isnt about less consumption, but when its sucking worse than a MAF tuned V8 when I'm being a nanna I had to ask the question.......Is it normal? It's tuned by a reputable Perth ford tuner using X4 flasher, just had 1000Id 80lb injectors put in , had the seimens 80lb deka taken out (which were 1000kms old) was told that they're no good to tune for nice idle, the car was also having stalling issues ... In the end they still had problems on the dyno , in the end they had to clean the fuel system out because possibly octane booster had be put through the fuel system and disintegrated a performance fuel filter. The lines had to be all cleaned etc and then they got it sorted , also a fuel opening in a steel pipe fitting had been crushed ever so slightly but was replaced. (had two stalls since- hoping its clearing its throat :s) mods are: -atomic hd valve springs. -process west stage 3 cooler -Turbo smart race port bov -Brand new genuine ford lifters -Brand new Bosch 044 fuel pump and 4l surge tank -Brand new id1000 injectors. -Brand new genuine coil packs -New fuel filter and all system cleaned -Nizpro forward facing plenum -Gt35/40 turbocharger ported and bigger wastegate -11.8 actuator -Battery relocation - 4’’ dephillipo dump, twin 3" exhaust -K&n intake pod to turbo running 368rwkw /493.5hp @15.5psi I had my old utes same make and model as this one now (BA mkii 2005 6 speed xr6t) and it was tuned to 285rwkw @12psi and really it didnt seem to drink anymore than the factory tune
